Washington Whispers
Senator Kerry's Final Three
Kerry campaign insiders tell us that the Vice Presidential selection team is down to three finalists.
They won't say who they are, but we hear that Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack remains the front runner and that North Carolina United States Senator John Edwards is in the pack.
Senator Edwards is liked inside Kerry headquarters, as evidenced by the Edwards bumper stickers in some cubicles.

This is like a lot of trial balloon floating - it's hard to know what is real and what is just a sounding to pick up reflected signals. I love the way they float a very large list in order to stroke the ego of people they need the assistance of - but whom they wouldn't select in a trillion years. Case in point - Wisconsin Gov. James Doyle. Very soon to be a one term governor - that would add absolutely nothing to Kerry. But they floated it anyway so that Doyle would get a few days of buzz.

he didn't run for reelection in the senate because he would
very likely have gotten killed. some people think that's
really why he ran for (vice) president.

Yeah, I thought it was you.
Are you back MI? It seemed we went through a long dark teatime of the soul when you were away. We needed your perspectives from across the pond.

A guy named Richardson who doesn't really look hispanic, and who burned down the Los Alamos Laboratory after letting nuclear secrets be taken from it, doesn't seem like that great of an addition to the ticket.
But maybe that's just me.

Gov. Richardson makes the most political sense if Hillary would release him from 2008 duty.
Don't know his background problems with national security issues, but it would be hard to cut through the media celebratory haze of '1st Hispanic national candidate--What does this do to Bush's core base of Latio support from the last election?'

Hitlery is running for President.

Iraq is getting nothing but better. the turnover of power
should go well, and if it does, jauques is out of issues.
you get the sense that he knows it, too. have you noticed?
he's running on health care as much or more than anything
else.
anyway, that would knock the stuffing out of a clarke VP pick.

I remember that young woman lawyer that gave a good speech during the last election and I also remember Harold Ford falling all over himself for her.
To: smonk
Edwards' biggest problem is his mediocrity. He may be telegenic, but anyone who covered his campaign will tell you that he nearly bored them to death -- because he looked charming and charismatic but gave the same idiotic campaign speech 15 times a day for three months.
This is the untold story of Edwards' campaign. His strongest supporters were those who never had to listen to him speak.

Disagree. Richardson won't be Hitlery's VP. He'll try and take her out and win it all for himself.

reality goes only so far. the media has done a good job setting the "reality" of iraq as a quagmire, failed reasons for entering the war, etc. right now, its still a negative issue for Bush.
To: freekitty
I recall Harold Ford putting in very polished performances on the Sunday morning chat programmes (we do get Fox as well as CNBC and CNN here now). He appears very Blair-esque, and that is highly dangerous.

Richardson is loyal to the Clintons. I believe he helped with the Monica issue.
