Washington Whispers
Senator Kerry's Final Three
Kerry campaign insiders tell us that the Vice Presidential selection team is down to three finalists.
They won't say who they are, but we hear that Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack remains the front runner and that North Carolina United States Senator John Edwards is in the pack.
Senator Edwards is liked inside Kerry headquarters, as evidenced by the Edwards bumper stickers in some cubicles.
If Kerry picks Bill Sack, or Ball Sack, or whatever his name is -- I'd say this is a very good sign. This means the Kerry campaign feels the need to go the extra mile to win in Iowa. If Iowa is close, then a few other swing states are likely to be leaning Bush's way.
All that influence... "back on the road again" social life for the 'Toon... and VP's always under the press radar
Justa (bad) thought.... apols...
a four star general on the ticket would give their base the
hives. edwards is a lightweight, as evidenced by his PATHETIC
performances in the debates. he gives a good stump speech,
but that's because he pretends like the crowd is a jury during
a juicy zillion dollar lawsuit against some poor doctor, or
the pharmaceutical company that just discovered a miracle
drug, but can't get the FDA to approve it because some thug
dem senator has it bottled up in committee. this also brings
up edwards fatal flaw; he's literally an ambulance chaser.
if kerry puts little edwards on the ticket, bush instantly
pushes tort reform to the top of the agenda, thereby putting
kerry and company on the defensive for the rest of the
election.
but either one of these guys would violate the first rule of
for the number 2 guy on the ticket; don't outshine the #1
guy. and THAT turns out to be a pretty tough order.
that's probably why this nobody from iowa (nothing personal)
or some similar nobody, will get the spot.
Hillary is probably the safety valve pick if something goes terribly awry with the veep nominee.. (stories from the past, etc.)
Fortunately, Kerry is obviously not that bright. Vilsack will probably get it because he is less of a threat to Kerry's ego than Edwards.
Regards, Ivan
I have a feeling that if the Kerry campaign has actually leaked these two names (there are only two names), then it will end up being neither of them. They just want it to be a big surprise so the media can go ga-ga over it later.
You're Bill Clinton?
I thought Hillary had categorically said that she's not running for veep? (unlikely, I know!)
Is Harold Ford old enough? I don't think he's 35 yet.
their base is staying on board - they want to win, they know that Clark would have no impact on how Kerry governs if he is elected.
At this point, since the election hinges on Iraq - I would give Clarke the edge. Hillary is the wildcard, should something happen to cause Bush to tank in the polls before the convention - she will jump on.
Shhh, you'll get me banned.
Ford is too young. Richardson is Hillary's VP in 2008 - they will not allow him to be tarnished in this cycle.
But it would give Kerry goosebumps.
Plus Wes brings in the Soros and Hollywood money.
Born: May 11, 1970

Good list. I'll liven it up a bit: Warren Buffet.
Rep. Ford is a good pick to 'take one for the team' with Lurch boy, but too young to be eligible this time.
Warner could be a dark horse pick along with Graham of Florida (lack of charisma rule here)
You're freepname was the tipoff...
So we can be rid of him!!
My trial lawyer counterparts tell me that edwards has already told him that he's not the one. He doesn't strategically bring anything to the ticket either.
