indeed, that is my point. Some banal words from Bubba at this service would diffuse all of that. hard to claim its some right wing political machine that has taken over the Reagan funeral (not that its true of course, its media spin) when Bubba has said a few nice words about the man at the service. For you, everything has to be about politics! I pity you, I really do.
To: ContraryMary
Al Gore should be invited to speak. He invented funerals, after all.

This episode truly shows the desperation of democrats. I know Rush says it all the time and we all know it in the backs of our minds.. but the overwhelming support and love for Reagan and all he stood for is simply too much for them to take.

its not "for me", I'm not spinning this, the media is.

Maybe the Clinton's feelings will be so hurt, they'll skip the entire funeral altogether. /wishful thinking.

The political damage was as a result of the content of the fune-rally. No one knew about Cheney not being invited and that sort of thing. It was the ranting and raving and laughing and crap. The National Cathedral event post-9/11 didn't include Clinton even though he was the one whose intelligence failures allowed it to be planned in 2000 and carried out in 2001. You didn't hear about outrage from the public on that. It's because the event was conducted with respect for the dead. It's all about the content.

I never got the impression that the two were very close. Perhaps I was wrong. I do know that Bush didn't carry on Reagan's legacy.

I don't think anything in her character or history -- or that of her husband -- indicates the quality of giving in to screaming, crying brats. If it was she that decided, she won't back down.

He's probably starting withdrawl right about now while heading around the corner into depression.

Kerry... in SIMI VALLEY.... Reagan Country.... Right off the Ronald Reagan Freeway near the Ronald Reagan Library... Republican majority since the '60's. And Kerry wants to come here?

Thats from the WWII dedication/opening ceremony. I still haven't heard a report of exactly what they were saying to eachother at the time.
It seems to my it was some buddy/buddy joking going on.
For all the terrible lies Clinton told about Bush41 in the campaign, it seems that they really have become friends in the XPOTUS Club and enjoy talking with each other.

Did anyone consider that Mr Reagan himself may have requested that Clinton not speak?

Carter has waaaaaaaay more class than Bill Clinton. (That's still not saying much.) Carter would never dream of wanting to speak or expressing the desire to speak. Reagan disrespected Carter so much that Nancy would never let it happen. I imagine that Reagan was just as disgusted with Filthy Bill.
