Unfazed by a failed attempt to place Ronald Reagan's image on the dime, federal lawmakers plan to introduce today a flurry of competing bills placing the image of the 40th president of the United States, who died Saturday, on the 50-cent piece and the $20 bill.
Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R- Huntington Beach/Long Beach, who served as a Reagan speechwriter for seven years, said he will introduce legislation today replacing former President Andrew Jackson on the $20 bill.
Rep. Jeff Miller, R-Fla., will introduce legislation to place the likeness of Reagan on the half- dollar coin, replacing John F. Kennedy.

A new dollar coin would be my second choice.
I love Reagan but .... I would not want the American people to stop being reminded of Andrew Jackson! Replace the Commie FDR with Reagan on the dime.
Take Jackson off the $20 bill because it DOES NOT honor him at all. Jackson fought the establishment of the Federal Reserve tooth and nail and putting his image on the $20 bill was their way of rubbing it in his face.
See my post #3.
P.S. Jackson's image on the $20 is akin to Kerry using the Swift Boat vet's picture to bolster his standing among Vietnam vets even though only 2 of those pictured actually support him.
1 )Mrs. Reagan has already stated that she would not support placing RR on a dime.
2) The greatest President of the 20th century deserves a larger presence on US currency than our smallest coin.
I think it CHEAPENS the memory to start this petty garbage again now.
All this is being done ONLY for political gain.
Just a guess, but I think it was done, in part, to aid the country in getting over the shock and loss which had occurred.
Maybe that.
I don't think Reagan himself would want to replace any of the existing images on currency or coins.
Reagan doesn't have a chance of replacing JFK.
Better on the $10 or $20 bill.
But Republicans should decide which bill they are going to do.
Dana Rohrbacher wants the $10 bill and McConnel is going for the 20.
I love Reagan as much as anyone but I don't think putting his image on money that would no doubt be de-faced is anyway to honor him.

You have something against political gain for the conservatives?
Kerry's likeness should only be put on a coin that is the size of the piece of shrapnel that gave him his first Purple Heart.
I think his commander sid it looked like a sliver of a pencil lead.
You're entitled to your opinion.
Personally, I've been an advocate of commemorating RR on US currency for several years now.
I'm happy Rep. Rorabacher will introduce this legislation. It will be great fun when doing business w/ liberals to pay in currency bearing Pres. Reagan's likeness.
I think it's the other way around.
The dime is a waste. If they are going to use the dime they might as well just make it the penny or the nickle. In other words what the point if its only going to be thrown in jars and used for chump change at the toll booths. I say go for the $20.00 bill. A lot more peopl use it and even greater exposure to the great man.
.
The JFK Shock and Awe was indeed softened by having his likeness appear on a new 50 cent piece.
I held on to my first one for about a year and it helped a bunch.
.
"You're entitled to your opinion"
THAT's why I said "I think" instead of "I feel"
a conservative THINKS - a liberal can only "feel"
naming money, buildings, military craft after a living person is too susceptible to abuse and self-idolatry (see Hitler, Lenin, Mao, etc) That is why in AMERICA we did not do that. (Notice the past tense)
this was one step towards that slippery slope of dictatorship - from the far right or the far left - it is evil either way.
Reagan would be weeping in shame for the country if he saw this.
