Hey, back off. I was trying to diffuse the dress controversy with humor. Guess I didn't do a very good job.

Let me clear it up. I don't give a damn what she wears. It's her father in that casket.

Not standards...that implies a rigorous mindset..I've always felt I had a pretty good inner sense of what's appropriate...it's never failed me yet..and watchig the tube, it didn't seem the thing to do, so Ithrew it out for discussion..I didn't castigate her....BTW, after reading the other info about white..if Nancy Reagan's suit had been white, I would have approved

"Rush: DNC refused to have headquarters flag flown at half staff "

PETTY AND DISRESPECTFUL ... HAVE THEY NO SHAME???

http://www.spectator.org/dsp_article.asp?art_id=6656

BAD APPLES
Give some Democrats credit: many of the comments released by party factotums on the death of President Ronald Reagan at least attempted to be gracious. But, while some of the words may have been magnanimous, the actions of some Democrats was not.

In California, according to a Democratic House leadership staffer, Democratic House leader Nancy Pelosi's office refused until late in the day West Coast time to prepare any remarks by the leader on the passing of the President.

"A call went out around mid-day on the East Coast that Reagan might be in serious condition, and that party leaders should be ready. But Pelosi's people basically said they couldn't' be bothered. [Democratic whip] Steny Hoyer had to get them in line. We got the impression they just didn't want to say anything that would be construed as supportive of a Republican."

Pelosi's office also nixed sending flowers to the funeral home where the president's body was being prepared for burial.

Back in Washington, staffers at the Democratic National Committee stopped a couple of interns who were lowering the flags to half mast outside their headquarters.

"The interns were just doing what they thought was right," says a DNC staffer, who heard about the incident. "But somebody a bit more senior told them not to lower the flags until they absolutely had to, I guess when President Bush announced that all flags should be lowered. There was only an hour's difference. It was pretty petty, but that's how bad things have gotten around here."

I saw a special about his selection and training on Animal Planet. He was offered as a good candidate, and they weren't sure about him because of his small size.

It occured to me that it would be extra special if he were to carry Reagan's own saddle and boots. Not sure if that will be done here, but I do think it would be extremely cool if he did.

Send a dump truck load of black jelly beans up to DNC HQ and dump it at their front door.

I'll send a dump truck load, but it ain't gonna be no jelly beans!

People can pay their respects throughout the night, straight through to 6:00 pm tomorrow. My wife and I are thinking about getting there about midnight.

why the hell isn't Fox News all over that - about the flag at the DNC not being flown at half mast? Maybe its not an american flag, perhaps they fly the soviet flag or a UN flag there?

Sorry, just to clarify - literally all night? As in, someone could drive up there at midnight and after to pay respects?

"remember my mother crying when John John saluted the coffin"

I was 8 in 1963, I watched all of it hour after hour, from the time immediately after the shooting till the funeral.

I still remember the cadence of the horses hooves, I still remember RFK walking in procession in his mourning suit. It had a profound impact on me.

A 5 yr old will have the memory of the events and as he grows up you can explain the significance of them as his maturity grows.

I had a discussion with my neice many years ago. She was griping about her studies of history. I told her that what she considered history was current events for we old folks that lived through it.

Attending will give your son a historical perspective that he will not have otherwise.
