"would you take your five-yr-old to see the funeral procession? How 'bout a 3-yr-old?"

Definitely take the 5 yr old. It is a memory that will remain with him for the remainder of his life. The 3 yr old may have a little difficulty with the somberness of the situation but you have to decide that yourself.

I heard a recording of a Russert special on radio yesterday afternoon while in the car. He was interviewing loads of guests about President Reagan. One of the guests, Tom Brokaw was so vicious, so vile, so despicable in his comments on our departed loved one that my hair stood on end. He would never get away with this on TV, the yellow-bellied coward.

This program, by the way, was on Fox radio, the same station where I listen to Hannity and other conservative hosts.

I hope no one flames me for a very naive (possibly stupid) question: There will not be an open casket?

Not stupid at all, but I believe the official Presidential protocol was set after JFK's funeral.

LOL! Thanks for the humor break! Sounds like certain in-law members of my own family, who, not too long ago, managed to ruin a wedding by their very public and mis-timed bickering.

The bride had planned things for nearly a year, and it all slipped away before the ceremony even started. Mother of the groom was in such a snit that she didn't even attend the ceremony.

I don't know how you even begin to get over that.

I think the sun broke through during President GW Bush's inauguration, too. It was such a lousy weather day, and then sunshine briefly, as if in benediction from Above.

Thanks for the info..I can understand white, and especially so in this case..because it's not really "sadness" in the sense of a sudden loss...this is "completeness " of his life...but then a white suit., with a modest skirt.maybe linee..not a shiny silk blouse...did you see the close up when she was sitting down..if you can't sit modestly in a dress, especially at a state funeral.. you shouldn't wear it...wanna bet she'll have a different oufit in DC?

I feel really bad for Michael - it's evident that he idolized his Dad. He and his Dad had much more in common than Patti and Ron did.

"Our prayers should be for Nancy Reagan. We KNOW where President Reagan is now."

Well said.

I am trying to figure out how anyone could think that Michael is being snubbed. His is front row along side the entire family. He is of no blood relation to either Nancy, Ron or Patty. He is RR's adopted son with Jane Wyman.

How the hell is he being snubbed. Surely he is not going to hold the hand of Nancy when her own daughter and son are there.

ARGHH I need a rest. LOL

MR's time through this week is going to be alot different then the immediate family of Nancy Ron and Patty but that does not mean he is being snubbed.

OK i am truly going to rest now.

Someone on FNC a few hours ago was saying that Alzheimer's almost forces families into seclusion, especially private families like Ron and Nancy Reagan.

This person talking said it would do their hearts good to get out again and see how much the country loved Ronald Reagan and it would comfort them in their grief.

No flaming, but I imagine the family would prefer the world to remember him when he was in his prime.

I guess you and I differ... I don't think there is anything wrong with the way she is dressed. Sorry, she isn't up to your standards.

There won't be an open casket. It's my understanding that it's the family's choice which way they want it.

I think the 5 year old will be old enough to understand and remember the importance and history of it. The 3 year old will be antsy after a while (but you know that!). I would make sure you bring lots of snacks and coloring books to keep them busy. Maybe a new toy.
