C-SPAN missed the full statement. Anyone have a copy?
What a load of baloney.
You must be insane, that is the only explanation I can see. Just go to bed, maybe tomorrow you will feel better. If you don't, then smash your keyboard on your TV, that will make you feel better.
I couldn't disagree with your more!!!!!!!!!!
Pray for W and Our Wonderful Nation
Yes, it was beautiful, and my paraphrase didn't do it justice.
"He always told us that for America, the best was yet to come. We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him, too. His work is done. And now a shining city awaits him."
Cheerleaders don't win elections talking about the emperor's new clothes. I'm not talking about crass opportunism(see Kerry's statement), but rather professionally rising to the occasion. Leadership demands going the extra mile at times. We have nearly every side of the media aligned against us, clear-headed honesty and truth is required, along with our best judgement and efforts, which sometimes is painful.
You sound like somebody from DU, for God's sake. President Bush was already in bed - it's way after 1 am in Paris and he has to be back on the road between 4 and 5 am. Second, I was very moved by his tribute to President Reagan. I don't know what the hell you were watching.
I think you are being hyper-critical.
Your comments aren't worth diddly squat.
Read my posting history, you'll be hard pressed to find a stronger supporter of President Bush. My critique is not based in bashing or tearing down, but realistic assessment. What matters is the general public's opinion, and unfortunately some people in the middle, some of those who's votes we need to keep the Dems out of office, will look at that speech and think, "He sure isn't Ronald Reagan." Which of course is far, far from the truth, but perception can become reality.
Thanks, mombonn. You said it well. I'm going to go and watch a movie on that happy note. God bless President Reagan and Nancy.
Since nobody on this thread agrees with you, perhaps it is you that is wrong. Goodnight.
I disagree. That's exactly what they are worth, and not a penny more.
Bush, who is in France for ceremonies honoring the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion, had been notified of Reagans death in Paris at about 4:10 p.m.,

Bush was at the U.S. ambassadors residence in Paris when Card told him of Reagans death less than half an hour after Bush left a working dinner with French President Jacques Chirac.

Bush hastily summoned reporters to the residence of the U.S. ambassador in Paris where Bush was staying overnight in between meetings with French President Jacques Chirac and Sunday's D-Day ceremony in Normandy.
Bush walked somberly down an arcing staircase into a sitting room and assumed his position behind a lectern with the presidential seal.
He blinked back tears as he said this line: "He always told us for America the best is yet to come.
"We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him too," Bush said. "His work is done. And now a shining city awaits him.''

Bush, who planned to make a full public statement on Sunday, was told about Reagan's death as he was about to go to bed after a working dinner at the Elysee Palace in Paris with French President Jacques Chirac
He spoke about Reagan's legacy in christening the USS Ronald Reagan at Newport News, Virginia, on March 4, 2001.
"As president, Ronald Reagan believed without question that tyranny is temporary, and the hope of freedom is universal and permanent; that our nation has a unique goodness, and must remain uniquely strong; that God takes the side of justice, because all our rights are His own gifts," Bush said
((Looks to me like he had things well in hand when he was told the news the report of it alone is enough to knock a sitting president off kilter especially when he looked on with such high regard as President Reagan was!))
Put down the bottle and step away from the computer...
I hope I'm wrong, and I hope you are correct that I am just being hypercritical.
You've read many of my posts, how often do I criticize President Bush? But perceptions matter.
Time will tell how people react, and again, I hope my analysis is way off. His speech at the funeral is ultimately probably more important.
>>...I am just being hypercritical.
You are.
Even Fox said it was generic.
President Bush read the following statement in response to the death of President Ronald Reagan:
"This is a sad hour in the life of America. A great American life has just come to an end.
"I have just spoken to Nancy Reagan. On behalf of our whole nation, Laura and I offered her and the Reagan family our prayers and our condolences.
"Ronald Reagan won America's respect with his greatness and won its love with his goodness.
"He had the confidence that comes with conviction, the strength that comes with character, the grace that comes with humility and the humor that comes with wisdom.
"He leaves behind a nation he restored and a world he helped save. During the years of President Reagan, America laid to rest an era of division and self doubt.
"And because of his leadership, the world laid to rest and era of fear and tyranny. Now, in laying our leader to rest we say thank you.
"He always told us that for America the best was yet to come. "
We comfort ourselves in the knowledge that this is true for him, too. His work is done and now a shining city awaits him. May God bless Ronald Reagan."
