How appropriate that Ronald Reagan, one of the Great Ones of the WW2 generation, has passed away on the eve of the 60th aniversary of D-Day.
I, too, would like Bush to use Ronnie's speech.

Yep. I turned 18 in 1983, so I got to vote for him in 1984. I consider myself blessed to have been able to witness his presidency. He is a giant. I am in tears. The retrospectives are almost unbearable, and made easier only by the knowledge that he is at peace.

She was such a big fan of Ronald Reagan. It's a comforting thought to think they might meet.

yeah...me too...I am sitting here in my office...bawling my eyes out. Fox just said he will be laid to rest at his library in Simi, CA. I urge everyone on this thread to see the Reagan Library. It is so beautiful. Mr. C4E and I visited a few years ago. Left me breathless with it's history and beauty. We plan to go again now that we know he will be laid to rest there. I will go and pay my respects. God Bless you Mr. President.

Dana Rohrbacher talking about the Reagan Speech at the Berlin Wall and how all of the White House staff was very concerned with what he was going to say , yet Reagan insisted that it should be said!

Thank you, Tam.
This will overshadow that Hollywood BS fundraiser in LA on Monday.
I can't think of a better way to honor Reagan than to FReep against Kerry...Hollywood style!

Don't go over there - they're filled with hatred for all things that are good.
Stay here and mourn with us.

President Reagan righted the Ship of State when she was listing badly. He restored America's pride and inate optimism. We were truly cheated not to have had his presence on the world stage these past years.
Oh Captain! My Captain!
By: Walt Whitman
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done, The ship has weathered every rack, the prize we sought is won, The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring; But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead.
O Captain! my Captain! rise up and hear the bells; Rise up--for you the flag is flung--for you the bugle trills, For you bouquets and ribboned wreaths--for you the shores a-crowding, For you they call, the swaying mass, their eager faces turning; Here Captain! dear father! This arm beneath your head! It is some dream that on the deck You've fallen cold and dead.
My captain does not answer, his lips are pale and still, My father does not feel my arm, he has no pulse nor will, The ship is anchored safe and sound, its voyage closed and done, From fearful trip the victor ship comes in with object won; Exult, O shores, and ring O bells!
But I, with mournful tread, Walk the deck my Captain lies, Fallen cold and dead.

"THE NEXT WEEK [KJL]
What an amazing week it should be. Of tribute, of celebration of a life, of a leader. As I understand it, Reagan will lie in state in Sacramento, then at the Capitol. Then there will be a memorial service at the National Cathedral, after which RR will be flown back to California for a sunset interment at the RR Library."
Thank you for the information! And I won't have much computer access next week, so I won't be able to be here at FR.
Interesting how he passed away on the Eve of the Sixtieth Anniversary of D-Day.
