God Bless You Mr. President and thank you for all you did for our country

You said it. We owe him unending gratitude for what he did to turn America around. I firmly believe he saved the world... at least until Clinton messed it up all over again :-(

Hit it Miss Marple. I have done nothing to disrupt this tread.

But, before you do, just consider that others would like a discussion instead of a shutdown that your ilk demands.

Do it, dear.

But, this love affair between him and Nancy has always bothered me. I cringed every time I heard of his admission that he could not bear to be out of a room from Nancy.

Not meaning to be disrespectful, but maybe you have never experienced that kind of love before.

"Sweetie, this is not the funeral home...it is a political forum. I will say what I think, maam."

Condescending and rude. Yes, you can continue, and people will take notice.

I thought they said a memorial was starting there. (by the fountain.) But, maybe they stopped now? I'm not sure?

I don't believe you could not invite Mr. Clinton as an ex-president. Even trent Lott went to the wellstone funeral, until it collapsed.

The seating will be interesting because of the G8 conference. Not only the G8 but there are invitee leaders who will also be attending. ALL those leaders will want to attend any ceremony.

This will mean mere senators will go to the back of the pecking order. Hitlary will be an exception with the other first ladies. (unless the ex-presidents are seated seperatly)

The most strikning point about this event is 1. we knew it was comming and it is still difficult and 2. how much it is a celebration of what individuals remember about him.

Ok, you've made your posts about Clinton attending. You've done your job. That's enough....how's about a quick exit?

I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course. I have kept the faith. From now on, there is stored up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, will give to me on that day; and not to me only, but also to all those who have loved his appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Ronald Reagan was my President. The first politician I had voted for. My reason for being a Republican, Ronaldus Magnus - as he is known in GOP circles - embodied everything I have come to believe politically, religiously, and personally about why were are here on this planet.

When he rose to power, America wasn't too keen on itself. Vietnam, Inflation and the Gas crisis, hostages in Iran. Ronald Reagan believed differently. America was the greatest country on earth. "A shining city on a hill," as he put it in a speech. We had plenty to be proud of. We were the guiding light of democracy in a world overrun with a cancer called Communism.

Ronald Reagan told it like it was and did something about it. He stood in the gap, which separated freedom from tyranny and he faced the evil of communism head on.

And in his eight years as President, Ronald Reagan changed all that. Hostages were friend. Regimes fell. Freedom was again on the march. And now, Soviet Communism is on the ash-heap of history - right where The Gipper said it would end up.

He defended us in Reykjavik. He comforted us with Challenger. He made us laugh after he was shot. He committed us to ourselves and we were prouder for it. No other man could be the man Ronald Wilson Reagan was at the time America needed him most.

My experience with President Reagan was after he had left office. I was just finishing up a pitch meeting at 20th Century Fox with a producer who liked our writing, but wasn't too thrilled with the ideas he asked us to come up with.

We were just coming out of the "Nakatomi Building," the main office building for Fox Studios. Scott, my partner, and I were talking as we were walking out. We stopped to discuss what had gone wrong. Needless to say, I was depressed after this lunchtime meeting. I didn't even notice the plethora of people milling about - some coming back, others heading for lunch.

Suddenly, a towncar pulls up. The crowd parted. Secret Service plowed the way clear and out came The Gipper.

He was waving at the the crowd like he was still the country's Chief Exective. Bright. Cheery. Confident. And although he had announced it to the nation, the skip in his step didn't betray for a moment the struggle he was waging privately with Alzheimer's Disease.

I turned and looked. Our eyes met, and he waved.

And suddenly, it was MORNING IN AMERICA again. And that very sense of confidence which Ronald Reagan was known to infect into those he knew, and those he didn't, had infected me.

And during these dark days when America is challenged by the evil forces of terrorism, and divided by the partisan forces seeking to undermine our efforts to end that evil force, the light that is Ronald Reagan will always and forever be the shining vaneer on that City on a Hill.

Another name just got added to the The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch.

“Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.”
- Ronald Reagan

Viya Con Dios, Mr. President. Godspeed. We're All Republicans today.
