Hey Mike, Sorry about getting this off kinda late, been pretty hectic around here recently. Not quite sure what you're hearing from the news, I don't get a whole lot of time to follow it. For the most I feel that the Iraqi people actually appreciate us being here. The attacks that are happening are basically a result of unemployment, and a few terrorists (or whatever you want to call them) paying people off to do the attacks. From what I've heard from the locals around my sector they are pretty much just trying to do what they can to improve their quality of life. But when so many people are out of jobs, they will pretty much do anything they can to make ends meet to provide for themselves and their families. There are many issues that need to be resolved as far as rebuilding their country. And though the people want as many issues resolved as quickly as possible, they can't be resolved that way in an efficient manner. There are already many Iraqi police and ICDC which are basically the guys we are going after, and they use the support of the coalition forces as a cover, so the rest of the people won't be able to fight back. So it may be a long road ahead, but for the large majority of the Iraqi people, they want us here, and they want us to help them rebuild. That always makes me feel good about being here, actually making a difference in these people's lives and giving them opportunities they've never had. It always amazes me how people don't think we should be here. I don't think they really understand what life is like here and how these people were treated. But I suppose most people will never understand that. Well, it's great to hear you're enjoying your new house. I might have to take a trip up there once my time is up. I'll send ya e-mails when I can. Brian

Your brother is an American hero!
Thank you for sharing this personal letter with us.
I am so sorry about your loss.
I know that it is very small comfort to you and your family that most Americans truely appreciate the sacrifice your brother and your family has made for our country.
We will try to make it worth it. We promise not to take for granted the freedom that he gave his life for. We promise to give all we have, in the fight here, in this land. The war we are fighting, has many battlefronts.
You are a hero as well as your brother. His fight is over, yours has just begun.
Again, please except our thanks and our condolences on your loss.
BTTT!!!!!!

Welcome to Free Republic.
My heart is breaking for the loss of this fine young soldier.
R.I.P. American hero.
Thank you for the ping, Tonk.
I'm very sorry for your loss. Thanks for sharing this -- its unfortunately that the voices of the guys on the front lines don't get heard more often, because if anyone deserves to be heard, its them.
I am sorry for your loss. From what little I've read of him, it is clear to me that he died among friends, doing the job he loved, and for a cause that he believed in. I hope you can find some comfort in that. What he gave his life for meant a lot to him, and his sacrifice means a lot to us.
You are with good company here at Free Republic. Thank you for sharing Sgt. Wood's email with us.
God bless him and your family.
May Brian rest in God's arms and may God be with you and all who loved him...I am grateful and humbled by his service and his sacrifice.
AMERICA...HOME OF THE FREE BECAUSE OF THE BRAVE
Mere words are inadequate to express my gratitude to your brother and all those who have fought for this great land. The only thing I can say is that I love your brother. I'll never know him, yet I sincerely love him.
Love him for his willingness to put on a uniform and shoulder the burden of protecting me while I go about my daily routine.
Love him for his bravery in taking on a vicious enemy who wants me and all other Americans dead.
Love him for the boy he was and the man he became.
Love him for his own loved ones left behind who now grieve over his loss.
Love him for being an American soldier.
As long as God grants me the ability to know love, I will love your brother and all his brothers and sisters in arms. In a personal sense, he is not my son. In an American sense, he is very much my son. While his death and those of each precious American son and daughter in uniform rips my heart, he has made me deeply, humbly, unshakably proud.
Tell your family I said Semper Fi!
So sorry for the loss of your brother. He is a HERO.
Thank You, for posting his letter.
Prayers for all.
