Breaking News on Fox
Haven't conservatives said in the past that one of Bush's qualities was that he surrounded himself with very good advisors? What was so bad about Tenet?
LOL
I knew we had DNC plants here but had never heard a reporter say that they deliberately choose conservative sounding names. That part was interesting to me.
And if you want to name names, freepmail me. Some days it's just fun to trollhunt. I have one in mind too. The others have long since been banned.
You could have picked a better example than Sen. Foghorn Leghorn for a suitable Tenet replacement!
Well, my dear, why don't you read the thread? I personally have stated I like Tenet. Others have stated so, too, so I am at a loss to your frankly bizarre question to me about "what was so bad about Tenet", when I never said there was anything bad about him.
I hate to throw this in at the bottom of a long thread like this but does anyone know how many Cabinet level resignations occured during x42 tenure?
I believe you are right, Tenet has stood up under alot of pressure and criticism. He has shown loyalty to Bush, even during the questioning in front of the 9/11 commission. I think he has done the best with what he has been dealt with. Rudy Gulianni would be a good replacement, however we need him to defeat the junior senator from NY. I wonder how well the Chief of police in L.A. would do in this position? They say he has done alot of good in LA since he has been there.

that is another issue here - Tenet may know of some attacks coming this summer, and wants to get the hell out of the way now.
I (unfortunately) couldn't agree more. :-(
Don't forget #41 used to be in Tenet's position. There's been rumors that Tenet knows a lot of Bush "stuff" to make sure his position was secure past the clintonoids.
Who knows, maybe if possible terrorist attacks in the U.S. really go bad later this year, GW woouldn't even need the Supreme Court to get him in office this time.
The Constitution would probably be suspended and martial law initiated.
Speaking of our Constitution, didn't GW and Congress just forget using it when they voted a mere "resolution" in Oct 2002 to do a "first strike" in Iraq/Afghanistan?
Would this whole mess be different IF they had deferred to the Constitution?
After all, as Rush has pointed out, the threat was deemed a big deal secretively by Beezelbubba. A threat such that he appointed a commission to 'study' the problem. Typically, he appointed bozo Al Gore to head this investigative commission which produced a whole slew of recommendations for airline security...WHICH WERE NEVER ENACTED. Instead, they were DEEP-SIXED under the Xlinton administration...which was not about to queer the economy over obviously what Xlinton deemed only a mere possibility of such an attack. Call it simple negligence if you will...although I wouldn't. Xlinton left it as a time-bomb for the next administration...and with his agents in place to throw sand in their eyes...they never mentioned AlQueada's Operation Bojinka AT ALL to the new guys.
This is just too coincidental. In the ordinary course of things you would expect one or the other to correct an omission, ...either Clarke or Tenet to have alerted the new administration's National Security Advisor or the President himself to this issue, but not BOTH to simultaneously stay mum on the issue. But they did.
Damn peculiar.
It isn't a question whether to make him director or not. Just submitting his name will make the RATS run in circles deciding what to do.
Once again, it's not who we want in the Director's job, it's who are we going to get.
Here's another name for us to chew on. Former President, George Bush.
For the majority of Americans, politics isn't everything. You need to take a break for awhile before you crack up.
"I agree. Bring Woolsey back. And I'd like to see Guiliani at Justice to replace Ashcroft."
If you want to bring a previous director back, how about Daddy Bush? (let's get the tinfoil hats at DU going)
I hope whoever it is it will put the Dems in a total tizzy. Kerry cannot buy a soundbite these days.
Good catch!
Re#540 Oh, to dream. That would be surreal. Unfortunately, I can't see it happening. Wow, though...
Tenet is on giving a speech NOW!!
Bet the camera does not scan the crowd?
Often the best way to understand an enemy is to try and think like them. Since perception is reality, a realistic appraisal of how a story may be spun is a necessary part of FR discussion, not just the positives. Even if the latter is the truth, we need to anticipate how the truth might be quickly buried by the mythmakers of the left.
And he's praising President Bush for his leadership
I guess he won't be writing that bush bashing book huh??
Tape airing of Tenet's comments to CIA employees.
McLaughlin introducing. (He will be acting Director when Tenet steps down July 11).
McLaughlin chokes up in introduction. Idiot Martha on Fox should shut up.
Tenet up:
Thunderous and sustained applause---very sustained.
Very very sustained applause.
For past nine years part of a great family. The CIA family. Success and disappointment, joy and sorrow.
Today I give you the news I gave the president last night. I will step down as director on July 11, the anniversary when I was sworn in.
Never a good time to leave.
Special thanks to President Bush. Upon taking office he immediately recognized need to build up intelligence community. He cares about the employees here. Takes it seriously. Met with him daily.
