Many FReepers have been contacting me about various action items I have posted, saying that they were having difficulty getting the contact info for their Congressmen, Senators, etc. Thus, I have gone ahead and purchased a "SoapBox Alert" on Congress.Org to enable FReepers to use the protest tactics of this left-wing site against the left wingers -- it directly enables you to contact your representatives and Senators (and makes it very easy). I hope you make use of it.
This is the Action Item: Tell Congress: Hold John Kerry Accountable For His Illegal Receipt of Federal Funds
Clicking here will take you to the item as well. Here is the text of the item:
John Kerry Has Violated Federal Law 2 U.S.C. § 39 And Must Be Held Accountable
Please read the following sample letter below it states all the facts you need to know. I strongly discourage sending seminar letters, so please read the facts in the sample and draft your own letter. However, if you are short on time, please feel free to send the sample. Please make sure to send this item to all your family and friends so that they can complete it, and please ask them to do the same.
Letter reads as follows:
John Kerry is stealing from the taxpayers, and he must be held accountable.
2 U.S.C. § 39 mandates that "The Secretary of the Senate ... shall deduct from the [salary] of each Member ... the amount of his salary for each day that he has been absent from the Senate ... unless such Member ... assigns as the reason for such absence the sickness of himself or of some member of his family."
According to the Congressional Record, in 2003 Senator John Kerry missed 64 percent of the votes in the Senate. In 2004, Senator Kerry has missed nearly 100% of the vote. In effect, Senator Kerry has been AWOL from the Senate, neglecting his duties to campaign full-time. Recall that Bob Dole, a dignified candidate and Senator, resigned when he could not execute his duties in the Senate so that his constituents could be properly represented.
John Kerry doesnt show up for work, has no valid excuse under the unambiguous statute, but is receiving full pay. This is wrong, is a violation of federal law, and is effectively theft of taxpayer funds.
The Secretary of the Senate refuses to dock Sen. Kerry's pay for the days he is absent running for President. In response to a legal letter demanding that she enforce the law, the Senate Secretary said that, because her predecessors had failed to enforce the law, she would not enforce it either.
All Americans are charged with knowledge of the law ignorance of the law is never a defense. But, Kerry is also a lawyer and federal official thus, Kerry must be held to an even higher standard. Therefore, Kerry is charged with knowing that he is receiving his salary in violation of federal law, and, to comply with the law, he should properly refuse the money and/or return it to the Treasury.
It is sad that John Kerry has to be forced to return his ill-gotten funds he should have done so on his own long ago. And, to add insult to injury, John Kerry doesnt even need the money hes a millionaire.
John Kerry must do the right thing he must cease knowingly taking taxpayer money in violation of federal law.
We work hard for our money John Kerry hardly works, but he is getting our money anyway. That is just plain wrong.
