Can you imagine the reaction had Bush gave the bird to a Vietnam vet at the Vietnam Vet. Mermoiral, on Memorial Day? It would be frontpage news on every paper in the country and the lead story on all the networks, photo or no photo. All you would be hearing is

"George W. Bush, who avoided serving in Vietnam, made an obscene gesture to a Vietnam Veteran at the Vietnam Vetrans Memorial this Memorial day. John F. Kerry, who was a decorated war hero in his two tours of duty in the jungles of Vietnam and has a strong Rambo look to him, was critical of the illegitimate president and cited it as another example of George W. Bush abusing veterans"

Once again I asked the question, is Kerry really acting like a man running for the highest office in the land? The answer, no. Day by day I am getting more convinced that Kerry is not going to be the Democrats candidate. His job is to see how much damage he can do to President Bush, and then do a "tag team" hand off to someone standing in the wings. True, but a photochopped version would invalidate any real image that might show up later. Remember how the photochopped Kerry-Fonda as a fake outpaced the Kerry-Fonda real on the news.

Photochopping is ok if it is obvious that it is a satire. If it appears too real, and people take it as such, it becomes a fraud.

Be careful when photochopping if you want the event to have credibility and validity.

There's an awful lot of wishful thinking in this thread. Your literal statement - that it would not make him more popularl - is probably about right. Few will care. A few would like him more - Moveon.org, for example. A few will like him less (not counting those whose opinion of him was already zero). Overall, not a significant issue.
