No joke: Al Franken considering a Senate run

By ROB HOTAKAINEN

Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune

May 25, 2004

NEW YORK - No professional comedian has ever been elected to the U.S. Senate, according to Capitol Hill historians, but Al Franken is seriously thinking about trying to become the first.

By the end of next year, Franken said he expects to decide whether to move from New York City to his native Minnesota to take on Republican Sen. Norm Coleman in 2008. If he runs, he would seek to reclaim the seat of his hero and friend, the late Democratic Sen. Paul Wellstone.

"When Paul said something, whether you agreed with it or not, you knew where he stood," Franken said. "And that's a great thing. I kinda like the idea of my running because I think I'm in a position to do that, and it might be for having have been a comedian. You know, I feel like I can say what I want to say."

Franken, interviewed outside a New York skyscraper that hosts his new liberal radio talk show, said his decision will depend partly on the fate of his new show and whether a stronger candidate emerges.

Maybe he could move to Massachusetts. Then they could have the Frank 'n Franken Show.

Here's the list of their current stations. Hasn't updated in a month;

http://www.airamericaradio.com/pub/resStations.htm

They lost the Colorado Springs station before they had it due to their financial instability.

They also lost their Minneapolis station for two others that are only taking Franken's show and one other off AA, so they can't count them. This is due to them trying to force stations to take all AA shows or nothing. I guess money changed that.

Their massive push into San Francisco never happened. No stations are listed or coming.

Nice to know Coleman won't have to worry much about getting his second term.

Franken said his wife is ready to move. His daughter is also supporting the move, but Franken said, "My son, right now, is the holdout."

I could understand his wife want to move, out.

But, OMG!, he has kids? Sounds like the son might take after Mom.

Franken's show is only doing bett than Rush's because they included the two hours before each show starts as part of the ratings. Head to head Franken I'm sure gets trashed.

So what's really wrong with this? He'll be just like all of the rest of them marching in step to the elites. His votes will be the same as the others & then it will point out the corruptness of the "Two-Party Cartel"

You mean the residents of Colorado Springs didn't immediately cotton to the likes of Herr Franken?

RACISTS!

If he's really considering a senate run, it IS a joke.

He might as well run. The whole Senate is a joke.

Franken's a comedian?

I believe that urban legend has been debunked.

The first line of this article gives it away as satire. It said "no professional comedian has ever been elected to the U.S. Senate." Was Kerry not elected? Was he appointed?

It would serve him right to run and win.
He should be careful what he asks for.
He will also be willing to serve without pay (ROFLMAO).
