I had recently heard one to many Democrats regurgitate the Bush was selected not elected.
Which demonstrates a lack of understanding of how the electoral process is supposed to work. It frustrates me that people are naive and selectively irrational enough to not understand that Gore was essentially cherry picking the margin of error in select Democratic districts.
This of course feeds back into the fundamental problem indirectly posed by the article of this thread: irrationality, faulty logic and a poor grasp of history. I have no problem with dissent *if* it provides constructive criticism from which to improve. The dissent I've witnessed falls entirely into the three aforementioned problems.

I think the bottom line is that half of the nation is tired of the other half's rabid, mindless, unreasoning, hatred for the greatest nation and culture in the world that has done more for other nations to it's own detriment, than any nation in history.
I don't know about the rest of the posters, but I hear the word "Civil War" coming from the PTA meetings to coworkers. Half of the population is so sick of the other half that it's most likely going to get ugly. The only reason there isn't a civil war between liberals and conservatives in this nation now, may only be the lack of identifying uniforms.
Patriotic Americans have silently watched liberals attempt to destroy this nation for decades now, now the cost is finally becoming too high to remain silent and let spoiled children throw their tantrums and allow the venting of their infantile hostility towards society destroy us. So now liberals are worried because for the first time in their lousy, worthless, space taking, existance, they are begining to hear the sound of a growing opposition after decades of having the field all to themselves? They should worry, they should spend sleepless nights worrying. Instead of "America love it or leave it", it may become "America love it or we will make you leave it".

Au contraire! (or something like that!) I figure it's kind of like turning on the light and watching the bugs scatter.
I honestly do NOT know what Kanelis was thinking when he wrote that editorial!!

Freedom: When lots of people criticize the government. The death of Dissent: When lots of people criticize the criticizers. Perhaps true freedom is when everyone can say whatever they want, without being arrested for it. Maybe THAT'S what the First Amendment is all about. This bozo seems to think that the First Amendment means his opinion is sacred and no one has the right to disagree with him. What an elitist!
Worth repeating.

Is this guy living in a cave? All the major papers I read and my local rag are anti-Bush and anti-war. The letters to the editors pages are also overwhelmingly anti-Bush in their content. From reading the papers I get, one would think that ninety percent of the population is against Bush and the war.

"It stands for liberty. It stands for freedom, but certainly within the bounds of good taste and community standards. The country stands for people's right to speak their minds freely. At least it used to stand for all that. "Here's the author's real beef. An America under Republicans is no longer within the author's idea of "good taste and community standards" (i.e. his taste and standards).
Thus he feels oppressed as though his liberty to be an asshole has been taken from him. When in fact, he is as much of an asshole as he has ever been, and his right to be so, is more protected than ever.

Something must have happened to change many Americans' minds about freedom of political expression.
______________________________________________________________
Maybe, Mr. Kanelis............many Americans' minds are in agreement with our President.
Is that too much of a stretch for your mind to grasp?
To: Maria S
If I promote the agenda of those who wish to take away the Constitution and all my rights, to overthrow the government with violence, put me under Sharia law, and kill those who disagree, am I being patriotic supporting what the country stands for -- "freedom of expression" or am I simply being a dupe in aiding and abetting the enemy?
