Kidnappers cut throats of nine hostages, 25 rescued [Khobar]

Saudi special forces rescued 25 hostages today when they stormed a building where suspected al-Qaeda militants had already slit the throats of nine people, a survivor told AFP.

Among the dead were seven Asians, a Swede and an Italian, said Nijar Hijazin, who had himself been taken hostage at the housing compound in the kingdom's Eastern Province yesterday.

"The nine had their throats cut by the kidnappers when they tried to escape at night by the stairs," Hijazin told AFP, watching the removal of bodies.

Hijazin, a Jordanian computer engineer, said he was rescued along with 24 fellow hostages and brought out by the roof.

Sporadic shooting had been heard from inside the apartment block after helicopters landed about 40 troops on the roof amid loud gunfire from automatic weapons just before 5.30am (12.30pm AEST).

Shots had rung out throughout the night, including an intense volley three hours earlier, however calm returned by about 7am.

Al-Arabiya television reported the leader of the militants captured, although there was no official confirmation.

Unfortuantely the Saudis have a history of giving these guys the chop before any potentially embarassing info can be extracted from them. The whole country is rotten.

Every Muslim may not be a murdering terrorist, but every murdering terrorist has been, and is, a Muslim.

Worth repeating, knarf, may I?

Every Muslim may not be a murdering terrorist, but every murdering terrorist has been, and is, a Muslim.

"Every Muslim may not be a murdering terrorist, but every murdering terrorist has been, and is, a Muslim."

Really?

Timothy McVeigh was a Muslim? Janet Reno (Waco, Elian) was a Muslim? The IRA people are Muslim? Robert Mugabe and the ZANU-PF people are Muslim? All terrorists.

I'll grant you the Sudanese Government is Muslim.

You nailed it in one sleek sentence.

Even Fox is down playing this incident on the morning news. Just wait until it happens at the local Winn Dixie or Wal Mart. Maybe the media and the sheeple will take it seriously then.

Just like many of us here in FR were so unaware of how many like-minded people there were before we discovered FreeRepublic ... and thinking we were either alone or in a vast minority ... So too are many (IMHO) whom have yet to have their god identified.

I believe, if allowed to sit at the feet of a teacher, they would embrace the teachings of Mohammed.

Everyone you've cited are/were on a superiority trip ... I think the logic is identical.

Just talked to my friend who lives down the road from that compound. His wife was supposed to go there tomorrow. They're locked down and have no idea when they will be able to return to work. Today is the second day of the work week there. He has no idea what they're going to do as far as leaving or staying. No attack has scared him before over there, but this one has.

The typical Saudi response is to get more cops out on the streets and give all Westerners closer scrutiny. Arabs are waved through security checks like normal.

Timothy McVeigh was deluded by mooselimbs, his support team were mooselimbs.
Janet Reno was/is a commie, (a different terror group.)
IRA were supported trained and financed by both commies, and Libyan mooselimbs.

The statement should have used "many" not "all."

My point (and maybe I did not state it well) is that we on FR need to be careful making blanket statements about things that are demonstrably untrue.

This forum is monitored as I have found out from painful experience. My likeness and screenname are now posted on a couple of whackjob leftie sites.

Let's not give them any more ammunition. That was my point.

The press will ignore this in favor of more Abu Ghraib photos.

I heard briefly on Fox late last night that the corpses of the dead hostages had been mutilated.

I'm sorry, but after that, after 9/11, after the contractors were killed and mutilated in Fallujah, after the way Daniel Perle and Nick Berg were beheaded, after the treatment of Jessica Lynch and the soldiers captured with her, and so much more....

Do I really give a rat's ass if Iraqi prisoners were embarrassed, nay, even humiliated?

I understood your point and was supporting it.

I don't write essays, but some of my FR photo posts have been re-posted on hillary.org.
That's about as whackjob leftie as one can get.

Point taken, and thank you.

We live in such a dynamic time that I can easily be equally dynamic. It probably goes back to our school days when we got into a fight.

The fight happened and then it was over.

Today's non-culture is so devoid of the individuality of each child.

Let me know when I should start feeling sorry for Saudi Arabians. I won't, but at least I'll know when the correct time for it is.

I agree with that. Of course, we could always revert to the infamous Katie Couric editorialized questioning technique that begins with one of two phrases:

"Some say blah blah blah..."
"There are those who say blah blah blah..."
