In referring to the projected triumph of his despotic dynasty over our American democracy, Nikita Khrushchev once boldly proclaimed: "We will bury you!" Like now, the world was a scary place. Khrushchevs statement was really meant to serve as a psychological weapon, designed to lessen the will and resolve of the American people. It did not work then...but his ideas are working now. The Soviets were masters of deception-often burying News stories, doctoring photographs to delete those who had fallen out of favor with the party and deciding for the people what they could know. Likewise, those currently in control of our media are masters of deception, doing their best to bury, erase and dissolve critical pieces of information. The danger to democracy is incalculable. When a democrat acts like a republican, his story sinks. But a republican who acts like a democrat garners unprecedented media love and admiration. Senator Joseph Lieberman abhorred Abu Ghraib incidents yet staunchly maintained his support for the war and troops. He warned that failure in Iraq would have serious national security consequences . He supports strong national defense and unyielding support for terrorist-crushing Israel-even demanding that the U.S. embassy be moved to Jerusalem. Lieberman rallies against "freedom from religion." Liebermans stories, like his presidential bid, have been erased. Senator John McCain, the darling of the liberal media, like Lieberman, takes stances contrary to the party line. His recent call for increased taxes, colluding with the VP rumor mill and preoccupation with Abu Ghraib smack of the stuff Democrats are made of. Yet he floats to the top of the media pool. I am sending Lieberman $100.
Some-a few, have asked why former Clinton administration deputy attorney general Jamie Gorelick still seated at the 9/11 commission table, instead of sitting in the witness chair. The author of the now famous "wall" document effectively forbade law enforcement from interfacing with intelligence agencies. Incomprehensively, her story was dead on arrival. At the same time, persistently testifying Donald Rumsfeld has been skewered by an angry press bent on seeing him collect unemployment.
Why are atrocities committed against Israelis rarely reported? Israelis of all ages are mutilated weekly. Astute Israeli forces using incredible ingenuity thwart dozens of attacks. These stories never hit the media radar screen. But when the IDF inadvertently kills a Palestinian civilian used as a human shield by a terrorist in a dense city or knocks down "homes" used to smuggle Jew killing weaponry, the media does an appalling Palestinian human interest story. Likewise, why is the welfare of U.S. troops placed in jeopardy by constant imagery of Iraqis with panties over their faces? Where are the photographs of U.S. troops caring for sick Iraqis? Where is the documentary piece on our rebuilding successes? The several remaining moderate Arabs left are being turned against us by who?
How about language skills? Fading away into the media abyss is waffling Presidential candidate John Kerrys astoundingly incomprehensible comments on abortion-in well spoken English. He could be for Pro-choice judges but then also be against them. Amazing! Coming into always sharpening media focus, however, is President Bushs supposedly poor performances at press conferences and his scrambling of the English language. Waffles versus scrambled eggs-you decide.
In offering classic Jew bashing propaganda, Senator Hollings, a member of the diverse, inclusive, compassionate Democrat party, obtained a free media pass. His reprehensible essay citing George Bushs supposed obsession with the Jewish vote as reason to go to war is good old fashioned anti-Semitism. Senator Hollings story never even existed. Trent Lotts comments to a declining Strom Thurmond, on the other hand, resulted in media rage and ultimately, his resignation.
There is more. A robust economy buried in the service of high gas price stories. U.N. oil for food scandal replaced by Halliburton conspiracy stories. Our continued successes in hunting down Al-Qaida replaced by Michael Moores "Bush Loves Osama" piece of fiction. President Bushs commitment of billions of dollars to fight Aids in Africa replaced by images of placard carrying Bush hating leftists. Where are the stories detailing the lack of anti-Semitism from "The Passion of the Christ?" Why are we peppered with gun control stories while 80,000 gallons of bomb making chemicals found in Jordan find no headline? Iraqs sarin gas shells? What about Liberal Air Americas call for the Presidents killing replaced by detractors of the patriot act who insist that their freedom of speech has been squelched?
With important stores blotted out of existence, the quest for truth is made far more challenging. Buried by the media is, amongst other things, most everything good about our country. The medias agenda to devalue to our resolve, make us feel badly about who we are, disrupt the democratic process and limit our ability to freely form opinions based on un-doctored fact, is obvious. Khrushchevs philosophy is living within the very media outlets given the privilege of keeping us informed. The messenger may be different, but the message is sure the same.
Thanks for the link to the INFOWARRIOR thread. :-)
I think most folks can see we're in a generalized global war on terror, of which Iraq is an important part. I also think a healthy majority of Americans would agree that these Islamists are a pain in the butt and are none too unhappy to see the US Government doing something useful by killing them.
The leftist press can spin it any way they want, but when folks see Americans being beheaded and their bodies mutilated by celebrating mobs they tend to want some payback. Kerry doesn't have any payback in him. Bush most certainly does.
I want to see media traitors on trail for treason.
It seems encouraging to me that our military, that are in NY this week for Fleet Week, are getting cheers and having their dinners and drinks paid for by patrons. This is in NY, of all places. The MSM hasn't been able to make the public hate our troops, ala Vietnam, with their constant drumbeat against the war.

If Khruschev said this then he was a prophet.

Not in a pure democracy but America is not one of those.
We have a Senate and an Electoral College that are supposed to offset the whimsy of the public and the scaremongers in media.

You and NOpardons are zeroed in. Bush in '04!
The pounding of the shoe was the only thing missing from Algore's disgraceful rant last Tuesday.

Anyone else have the same perceptions?
Media has gone WAY too far. I was at a wedding yesterday and everyone was talking about it. When the media bias becomes to topic of conversation among ordinary Americans they've really messed up. Fine by me, I just tell them about the internet, the Iraqi blogs, and the CENTCOM press briefings that the press ignores but they can access easily. Pretty soon the media is going to bias themselves right out of business.
I thot you might like this read-piece...

I have to think so too. In my day-to-day life, that's certainly the way it is. The only folks who believe this clap-trap are the folks I know to be die-hard Ds. And they believe it without question, even when contradicting themselves from one sentence to the next.
Just last night, a relative of mine was over -- a die-hard D of many years. He told me in one breath that this war wasn't about WMD, that was a lie, it's really a war of imperialism. Then in the next breath he tells me even George Bush is sick of this war, and he'd pull out in a second if he knew how.
I told him I was confused, are we trying to colonize Iraq or cut and run, in his mind?
He said that was exactly his point -- the administration's policy is confused!!!
It's just non-sensical.
And all the non-Ds, 75% at least, are of the opinion it was a just war and it's being fought well. All the independents, too, are against the Ds on this.
I think this will be a very, very interesting year.
Sorry, you're correct, my term was off, we are a Republic. I would have once said a constitutional republic, but I'm not so sure I believe that anymore.
I still worry about the viability of democratically electing officails in a media-dominated society. The Senate and the Electoral College both can be manipulated by modern technology. The side with the best media team will win any election. That was probably the Clinton team's greatest 'innovation', if you will. The 'War Room'. (Did you ever see that Documentary?) Clinton was the first to institute a 24x7 'Media Response' team. With CNN/Fox/MSNBC/etc, an amateur just doesn't stand a ghosts' chance in hell.
I fear that politics will never be the same again. We have entered an entirely new era.
And committing open Sedition in time of war.
Thanks, Bob. The democRAT party IS like a septic tank - the big chunks float to the top!
There must be an election coming up - all us 'olders' are checkin' in, and I'm gettin' a h*rd-on!
Let's roll....................FRegards
Hi gonzo! Hope you & yours are having a lovely Memorial Day weekend. :-)
I guess algore just forgot to do that,in his state of hysteria.
True,true...I was in Manhattan last Thursday and can tell you,as an eyewitness, that the sailors I saw, were being treated VERY well,by ALL civilians. :-)
