a modern democracy can't survive in a media-dominated society

Not in a pure democracy but America is not one of those.

We have a Senate and an Electoral College that are supposed to offset the whimsy of the public and the scaremongers in media.

Sorry, you're correct, my term was off, we are a Republic. I would have once said a constitutional republic, but I'm not so sure I believe that anymore.

I still worry about the viability of democratically electing officails in a media-dominated society. The Senate and the Electoral College both can be manipulated by modern technology. The side with the best media team will win any election. That was probably the Clinton team's greatest 'innovation', if you will. The 'War Room'. (Did you ever see that Documentary?) Clinton was the first to institute a 24x7 'Media Response' team. With CNN/Fox/MSNBC/etc, an amateur just doesn't stand a ghosts' chance in hell.

I fear that politics will never be the same again. We have entered an entirely new era.
