On April 29, 2004, as a service and tribute to members of the World War II Generation, the National World War II Memorial opened for public viewing, exactly one month prior to the formal Dedication Ceremony taking place May 29, 2004. The World War II Memorial is the first national memorial dedicated to all who served during the Second World War. The memorial, established by the American Battle Monuments Commission, honors all military veterans of the war, the citizens on the home front, the nation at large, and the high moral purpose and idealism that motivated the nation's call to arms. The Second World War is the only 20th-century event commemorated on the Mall's central axis. (from www.wwiimemorial.com)
Don't forget that you can watch the dedication today!! God Bless all of our Veterans & Active Duty!!! |

Great movies, eh, Sarge? They made me think of my son, maybe a bit TOO deep, if that's possible.
I haven't seen him in three months. He's already spoken his first words, and is almost walking. I'm going to miss his first steps.
I feel REAL guilty about that, you know?

You are among friends, LC! Just sit back and rest your soul. Maybe wander through today's thread and enjoy the pictures of the WWII Memorial Dedication.

Ms.Behavin! We're going to Margaritasville. Will you do the honor of grabbing some margaritas from Google?? Make sure my glass is full. I can't start adventures without a full glass.
I'll provide the music.

Well just damn.
You are actually way ahead of me on the Margaritas. You go girl!
Or old lady. Whichever you prefer. Although, it would be fibbing to say you were just a "girl". LOL!

I am a Lord Of The Rings fanatic. I loved the books and movies. I was hoping they would have remade The Hobbit first, but who am I to suggest such things.

hell, Meg, I've been called an "enemy" in the past DAY.
I know I might be a little too "libertarian" for some folks on this site (even though I always vote Pubbie), but to be called an "enemy", after all I've been through, and all I've said, well, it just makes one wonder, Y' know?

Great movies yes.
As for missing your kid, I can imagine. But I have no children so I can't know.
But I do know about long separations from family and friends.
If I were you, I would put it into words, or make a video for your boy, to be viewed or read much later when he is able to appreciate why you couldn't always be there. (in person) But, you were always there for him.
Hope it helps.

Thanks, Kath. I wish this damned dialup could download anything in less than an hour.
My absolute FAVORITE Buffett song is "One Particular Harbor".

Short Cut was born in July '03. I deployed a month later.
Next time I saw him was when I came home on Emergency Leave to bury my Mother. That was about a week, in December.
Next, his Mama got sick in March. I saw him and her for 4 days. Last I've seen of them.
God, I feel like SUCH a bad father right now...
