And this from New Zealand:
Birds Fall From The Sky 19/05/2004 01:36 PM Simon Mowbray from DOC tells Newstalk ZB's Paul Holmes about the mysterious case of birds falling from the sky in South Auckland.
Is a link to a radio talk show there and says that 70 gulls dropped dead yesterday afternoon.
They froze to death. The Ice Age is coming, triggered by Global Warming. Or, eh, they fried to death. Global Warming is coming, triggered by the Ice Age. We need to put soot over the ice caps, bury our cars, and begin dunging our back yards to revert back to earlier methods of habitat-control. Technology is dangerous. Back to the horse-and-buggy. Lobsters are turning black. Gulls are falling from the sky. And our birds' heads are falling off!
You forgot,,,,,
IT'S ALL BUSH'S FAULT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There's another thread here about 10,000 birds falling from the sky in China..
Must have been that Gore speech...
[ /seminar caller rant ]
Happens frequently here on Dauphin Island. The birds fly all the way across the Gulf Of Mexico and they're so exhausted when they get here, they just quit flying and fall out of the sky when they are over land. There is even a word for it that I can't presently remember.
Maybe they're just pining for the fjords?

Splat??
The birds long to be........Close to You.....
According to the audio link, deliberate poisoning is a possibility.
"Why do birds fall down from the sky
everytime you walk by?
Just like me,
they long to be,
close to you (close to you)"

Farmers and other witnesses in Sangongdian village in Taizhou city saw flocks of bramble finch suddenly fall from the sky on Tuesday, the Beijing Youth Daily said. Most of the birds were dead when they hit the ground and some were injured, it said. The birds look like sparrows and are small in size. Officials from the local centre for disease prevention and control rushed to the scene. |
Well don't you know, about the bird? Well everybody's heard about the bird. Bird bird bird, the bird is the word...

It often decides not to fly before it is actually done flying.
