Call to prayer, noise ordinance, to go before Hamtramck voters

Tuesday, May 25, 2004

BY CECIL ANGEL FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER It's now up to voters.

The decision that has split Hamtramck -- City Council approval of a noise ordinance that would have allowed the Muslim call to prayer to be broadcast on loudspeakers from the Al-Islah Islamic Center -- was affirmed by a 5-0 vote Tuesday night.

Because the council didn't rescind the ordinance, the issue will go before voters, as required by the city charter. Until then, the city must put the ordinance on hold because residents filed petitions to stop it from going into law today.

The issue could be on the ballot as early as July in a special election or in August, the next regular election.

Even though the ordinance is in limbo, the Al-Islah mosque's leaders said Tuesday night they will begin broadcasting the call to prayer in Arabic at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Masud Khan, secretary of the Al-Islah Islamic Center, said the mosque has a constitutional right to broadcast the call to prayer, adding that it is already being done in Detroit and Dearborn.

"If Detroit can do it, why can't we?" he asked. "We have religious freedom. We can express our religion."

The mosque wouldn't be breaking any laws if it does, said Councilman Shahab Ahmed. He said the Islamic center was just being a good neighbor when it asked for the city's permission in January to begin broadcasting. It won't be penalized for using its loudspeakers to broadcast the call to prayer with or without the ordinance, he said.

Mosques in Dearborn and Detroit broadcast on loudspeakers and have done so without seeking permission from those city governments.

"I'm very disappointed it's going to a ballot and further divide the community," Ahmed said.

For Robert Zwolak, organizer of the petition drive, the issue is about noise, not religion. He's confident the ballot issue to overturn the ordinance will easily be approved by Hamtramck voters.

"I personally don't think we need a campaign," he said. "The people are aware of this thing."

But City Council President Karen Majewski said the irony of the petition drive is that it strips city control over the frequency and volume of the call-to-prayer broadcasts.

"The petition actually rescinds whatever control we might have had," Majewski said. "I don't see the logic in that."

Calls to prayer occur five times a day and last about two minutes. Officials at the Al-Islah Islamic Center say when they begin broadcasting, they will not do so in the early morning or late at night so no one will be disturbed.

Muslims have been in Hamtramck for decades, but a wave of immigration from Bangladesh, Yemen, Bosnia and other countries with large Muslim populations have boosted their numbers and political clout in the city.

The city has struggled with its changing demographics and religious and ethnic differences.

"Fear of change and fear of the unknown," are the reasons many residents signed the petitions against the call to prayer, said Councilman Rob Cedar. "I voted for this because I thought it was the right thing to do."

They have skillfully used our "freedom of religion" and it's close affiliation with government... to pry their way into position, wherein they can exterminate us, via the aegis of our own religious freedoms...

People have a right to freedom of expression too.

Everyone has an equal right to loudspeakers and an equal right to volume.

So I hope they won't mind if the Jews blast the Shema at sunrise and nighttime with loud speakers set up around town, and shine huge spotlights in everyone's windows to make sure anyone who is hearing impaired will be reminded to say the Shema.

They'll just put the speakers behind steel plate baffles, or in other places a shot can't get them.

I refuse to call that insane catterwalling a "call to prayer."

It's the "Muslim call to murder."

Just as Nick Berg, Daniel Pearl, or the other tens of millions of Mad Mo's victims over the centuries.

.50 BMG SLAP.

Also, digital frequency synthesizers available on the commercial market, smaller cousins to those used in missle radars, could also be employed to bath the speakers in sonics that would burn them out through feedback. A buddy of mine who worked for Qualcomm built this sort of device to knock out the boom-boom stereos in the cholos' cars that would cruise up and down his block in Mira Mesa at 2 AM. Highly directional, and they worked extremely well.

Didn't mean to leave you hanging.
The illegals where I live cringe when I come out to protest their their polka warbling fests. They have learned to cut it down on sight because I will pull my car right up to theirs and blast Metallica, Led Zep or Ozzy while playing "I don't understand what your saying!". Other times I just ask if their homesick (cruel, I know). No slack seems to be the thing. Let them set a precedent and you will lose the war.

They'll get me one day but it's so gratifying to turn the tables in the meantime.

If such tactics can be used on one category of invader I can't see why they shouldn't be used on another.

I'd say there are folks who work nights and sleep during the day, as I do, who won't like being jolted out of bed 5 times a day. These people need to pull their heads from their butts and think things through. Well, they only think about themselves, so I guess, with their way of thinking, they have thought it through.

The silence of the ACLU is deafening

Not really.

So long as it is anti-Christian it has the alcu's blessing.

What the alcu members fail to recognize in their blind hatred of everything decent is that to the muslims they are just another infedel. Soon as they get in control [with the help of the alcu, they will gladly cut the throats of the alcu members and laugh as they plead and scream that they were on their side].

Could not happen to a nicer bunch of guys.

Its no wonder these muslim societies all amount to nothing. the whole society takes 5 breaks a day to stick their a$$es in the air and fart off a prayer to Mecca while the rest of the world works their a$$es off. If these people had any work ethic they wouldn't have any a$$es to stick up in the air. Now they need loudspeakers to call them to the carpet. They need to be called to the carpet 5 times a day, but not to pray. TO WORK!

Someone sent me plans for an unidirectional electromagnetic disruptor based on microwave principals. Do you think such shielding would defeat such? I'm hesitant to build it because it seems to drain enough power to blow normal household fuses. This Michigan problem, though, seems to call for it's own dedicated gas generator.

A little Metalicca at 130 db would be a good counter measure! Who are the Muslims to say that I can' t worship Rock and roll... you know we are talking freedom of religion! If Metalicca can drown out my conversation in the parking lot of Giants Stadium I'm quite sure it will drown out a call to blasphemy!

If you bought a lot next door with some microphones and well placed speakers and amps you can effectually cancel out thier call using sound cancelation. (its a little more complicated than that but I wont get into the science just makin a point)

Beats me, I'm no engineer.

I'd just like to remind folks in the area that "ALLAHU AKBAR!" is what devout Muslims scream in glee as the saw the heads off of their living infidel victims.

That's why I call it the "Muslim call to murder."

they will begin broadcasting the call to prayer in Arabic at 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Of course we know they will broadcast the prayer at a very low volume to influcence the vote as people say "oh thats not so bad". Then when it passes, they will put it at the full GAZA volume, and say "Death to the infidels, Allah is the only god, your god is satan...etc" without any of the whiteys knowing what the hell theyre saying.

Still holding my breath waiting for ACLU to sue, or even comment on this issue, I am starting to turn blue. As O'Reilly and others have pointed out, their total lack of consistency shows the ACLU to be nothing but a legal tool of the Far Left to destroy Christianity in America.

wouldn't it be horrible if somebody at the same time , say played some music REALLY loud . Something like the clashes "rock the casbah", or perhaps some Wagner

How about "That Aint No Rag It's a Flag" ("and we don't wear it on our heads"), or "Have You Forgotten" which is aimed at the Chamberlainesque Council of Cowards.

Or buy the lot next door and set up a pork barbecue joint.

I love that, make sure you have fans to waft the smoke over to the House of Satan.
