All the votes have been cast in Fortune Citys Presidential Poll this week, with the surprising results that a higher percentage of online gamblers back Bush in the forthcoming presidential elections. Bush gained 54% of the vote from Kerry in a poll that was constantly swinging back and forth from its inception on April 1st. It certainly seems odd that people would vote for a government which seeks to outlaw one of their favourite pastimes, but who are we to question such things?
Dennis Rose, Senior Vice President at Casino Fortune, explained the idea behind the poll and the companys pledge to donate $100,000 to the winner:
'Gamblers are voters, wealthy, and have rights too, and we expect that many American gamblers will voice their opinions on the electoral process, especially how the current state of affairs affects their rights. This poll is an excellent means for us to further establish the will of millions of patriotic American gamblers. Online gambling is legal according to the recent WTO ruling and will continue to grow.
Rose added, ' We are confident the winner will respect the rights Americans who wish to gamble and realize the importance of regulating and taxing our huge industry.'
Whether the Bush Campaign will accept money from an online casino remains to be seen
On line wagering bump! Gee, you think they might be interested in FREEDOM?
Bush seeks to outlaw gambling? That's a new one on me.
"It certainly seems odd that people would vote for a government which seeks to outlaw one of their favourite pastimes, but who are we to question such things?"
Since when is Bush anti-gambling?
Or are these people just making shit up as usual?
A panel of the World Trade Organization, the body that settles trade disputes between nations, ruled this week in favor of a complaint from Antigua that the U.S. prohibitions constitute an unfair trade barrier.
Online casino operators believe this is the wedge they need to get in the door. "It's definitely a stepping stone," said Simon Noble, CEO of BetWWTS.com.
The Bush administration will appeal the W.T.O decision. If it loses and tries to maintain the prohibition on legal gambling, the United States would face trade sanctions. Still, anti-gambling scolds are vowing to press on.
"Laws against sports betting and Internet gambling advance important social policy," said Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) the author of the Senate legislation on online gambling. "We've had a ban on interstate sports gambling through telephone lines or wires since 1961. So long as we fail to clearly adapt this law to include the Internet, we will leave unchecked a dangerous and growing addiction."
Fascinating.
Las Vegas gambler BUMP!
GW displays all the signs of a savvy poker player. I think that's at least part of the attraction.
Will this make up for W's loss of support from strip club owners?
yes but whats the spread?
Now THIS is the poll that matters!
Because Bush is a wild-eyed, foaming at the mouth, fundamentalist Christian, these pinheads have extrapolated that if he's elected, he'll turn into a Crusader against sin, leading the charge into Las Vegas with a sledgehammer, ala Carrie Nation, and outlaw fun.
I've never once heard the President saying at all about gambling, one way or the other. Republicans aren't against gambling. What gave them the idea that we are? If people want to gamble, just make sure the game isn't rigged, at least too badly, and let them at it.
Remember that this article appeared in [so-called] news media.
