MADRID, May 21 (Reuters) - Two trains crashed in central Spain on Friday, injuring 20 people and disrupting rail services between Madrid and the northwestern region of Galicia, officials said.
Several carriages were derailed and six of the injured were taken to hospital in a serious condition, Spain's 112 emergency service said.
Railways officials said one train was in a station when the other hit it head-on. State railway company Renfe was investigating the cause of the collision, which took place in the province of Zamora, northwest of Madrid.
Firemen tackled flames from two carriages and the engine of one train, emergency services said.
Some 200 passengers were evacuated by road while trains from Madrid to Galicia were rerouted to avoid the scene.

TWO TRAINS COLLIDE IN AMSTERDAM, 16 INJURED
AMSTERDAM, May 21 (Reuters) - An Intercity train collided with a nearly empty train near Amsterdam's central station on Friday evening, injuring 16 on board, a Dutch Railways spokesman said.
A Reuters journalist on the scene said the mangled front carriage of one of the trains was resting on top of the locomotive of the other train after the accident.
A spokesman for Dutch Railways, which operates the train system in the Netherlands, said two passengers were seriously injured. One passenger was still trapped inside, according to local news agency ANP.
But both drivers had escaped serious injury, the railways spokesman said.
"One driver ran towards the back of the train when he realised what was happening. The other driver injured his finger," he said.
Several ambulances and rescue helicopters were at the crash site and emergency crews were still inside one of the trains.
The cause of the collision was not immediately clear. Amsterdam's central station has been recently undergoing renovations, with some tracks taken out of commission.
The spokesman said the train carrying the passengers was heading to the western city of Haarlem. Train traffic to and from the Dutch capital has been suspended.
This never happend on Mr.Rogers Neighboorhood.........
LOL
Bush's fault!
This never happend on Mr.Rogers Neighboorhood.........
It should have. That part of his show was darn creepy.
Ping to two more head-on collisions...at or near train stations/switching centers.
Someone messing with switches????
Happened in NY a few weeks ago. Human error......
This be gettin' weird, mon...
If Spain finds out terrorists did it again, will they resort to feet kissing? I don`t think you can surrender to the same enemy twice can you? Maybe they should ask the experts their French neighbors, who probably advised them on that first surrender. "You vote le conservative out of le office and immediately toss up le hands in surrender."
And for good reason.
It was a trolley, not a train!
One killed as trains collide near Gunter McKinney Courier Gazette, TX - 20 minutes ago GUNTER (AP) - Two trains have collided head-on, killing an engineer and injuring four other crew members in a fiery wreck that derailed almost two dozen ...
I hypothesized on an earlier thread that the remote sensing device found in the railbed in Philadelphia last night could have been a trigger to throw a switch down the line a short distance.
There have been two head-ons in Texas this month, one at least in New York, and now two in Europe.
Coincidence?
Given the use of trains (albeit with explosives) in Spain? Perhaps not.
Another point...explosives are not easy to carry around in the U.S. Why worry about 50 pounds of TNT when you can use the combined explosive force of 4-8 Diesel Locomotives?
Trains just won't stay on the tracks.
2 ran together head to head in north TX yesterday, and someone posted that a train derailed in Alamogordo (NM?) this morning.

Oh thats right...LOL!
Two in North Korea, too....
Are these routes planned by computers? If so, it seems a little strange that all these train are colliding around the world. Could a terrorist computer geek be responsible?
Didn't someone find an infra red device attached to the tracks on a NY-DC train line this week? The only way that I know that you can have a head on train collision is for someone to mess with the switches (remotely?) and put one of the trains on the wrong track. Is it possible that this is practice for a new wave of terror?
