Previously secret sworn statements by detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq describe in raw detail abuse that goes well beyond what has been made public, adding allegations of prisoners being ridden like animals, sexually fondled by female soldiers and forced to retrieve their food from toilets.
The fresh allegations of prison abuse are contained in statements taken from 13 detainees shortly after a soldier reported the incidents to military investigators in mid-January. The detainees said they were savagely beaten and repeatedly humiliated sexually by American soldiers working on the night shift at Tier 1A in Abu Ghraib during the holy month of Ramadan, according to copies of the statements obtained by The Washington Post.

You are to tuned in on the media thing. Try observing your friends and co-workers and see if this is any importance to them. You will find that it is discussed very little. Those of us who watch the media to much assume the majority of Americans do the same. The truth is just the opposite.
blah, blah, blah, blah.... who cares anymore??
Seriously.
I think the WH strategy is to let the media and the rats beat this to story to death to the point that people just get desensitized to it and then Bush will come in closer to election / debate season and give people confidence again.
That could backfire.
It could also indicate that they have something very good up their sleeves. That meeting with the Congressional Republicans yesterday may be a hint to that.
We'll see.
Then again, at this point, I'm almost hoping Bush loses so that Kerry can completely screw everything up and ensure Republican leadership for the majority of the next generation. But it's tough to reconcile that with the potential loss of American lives in the short term when terrorists realize they have figured out a way to influence our political process.
Point being: I'm this (thumb and forefinger about a millimeter apart) close to just throwing my hands up and not caring anymore.
I know; it's terrible. The 'wedding' we attacked in he middle of the desert near the Syrian border is reported with a straight face. One never sees anything positive. We should censor the media like in WWII, but I doubt it would be possible w/ the internet.
". . .sworn statements by detainees at the Abu Ghraib prison in Iraq describe in raw detail abuse . . ."
Oh yeah, I trust a sworn statement given by a terrorist.
Grow up WP!
They are probably keeping the more disgusting stuff for election day! OK by me. Not going to change my vote just because some GI's broke the rules and gave them some of their own back.
I don't; sorry.
I'm still waiting for Bill Clinton to express outrage over these terrorists being fondled by female soldiers and having to wear pink panties on their heads.
Dems/libs aren't calling the Iraqi prison abuse scandal their 'silver bullet' for no reason.
They intend to dribble damage out as long as possible. So far, they've gotten a solid 3 weeks of air play.
There is no one on the other side countering it. So why wouldn't they continue? It is doing the intended damage.
Drudge certainly isn't helping matters - the photo on his site is pretty repulsive.
There is an article in the Washington Times that counters but that is a voice crying in the wilderness.
I have never really been a "marcher" but I feel a great need to get a few million on the Mall in support of our side. I have no idea how to bring that about.
What was done by this rogue group was beyond disgusting and sick. But again, it was not condoned, it was being looked into as the above illustrates, and it was being handled without the needless tarring of our entire military and the adminstration. Until the media and dems got ahold of it and decided to amplify it and try to make it seem it was approved. These are only "fresh allegations" to the purient media.
Name a war in the last 50 years that the media wanted the US to win?
I went through worse than this at boarding sachool. Except the female teachers never sexually abused me, which in the case of the art mistress, I deeply regret.
Yeah, I agree, they are biased. Alway, always biased. That's why we should have never given them this kind of ammo. We can only blame ourselves. This Army unit's lack of discipline may cost Dubya the election. Of course, you have to add the CIA's incompetance, our lack of fortitude in willing to fight to win, etc., etc. We can only recover if Dubya stops listening to the politicians and kicks some serious ass. But I don't believe he'll do that. In fact, I don't think he has a clue as to what to do. One of his aides said yesterday that Dubya's never read Drudge, never listened to talk radio, only gets "briefed" on the newspapers, but does not read them. He sound just like his dad. "Hey, this is neat! What do you call it??" "It's a grocery scanner Mr. President. It's how people buy groceries." "Really??!! Wow!! That's neat!!"
Where's Truman when we need him? In fact, we could even use a General Grant right now. When someone proposed to Lincoln that he fire Grant, he said, "I can't spare this man, he fights!" Where's our Grant??
Kosovo.....maybe not a true war...more like a skirmish.
Never heard the MSM tell US citizens that the KLA was a terrorist group recently removed from the black list before we helped them.
MSM wants us to win wars when RATS rule the roost.
I believe that I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He has surprised me plenty so far and I think that he has far more planned than we think. Not a bad strategy....act ditsy and then b!tch slap 'em.
Who cares" Only the Mainstream Media! They just don't get it. The majority of the American people have moved on. This is just the same BS channeled over and over again. You think the idiots would have learned from the failed 911 Commission. The majority of Americans will judge the final report of the 911 Commission as totally failed! Congress would be wise to disband this farce right now!
