OUTNUMBERED British soldiers killed 35 Iraqi attackers in the Armys first bayonet charge since the Falklands War 22 years ago. The fearless Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders stormed rebel positions after being ambushed and pinned down.
Despite being outnumbered five to one, they suffered only three minor wounds in the hand-to-hand fighting near the city of Amara.
The battle erupted after Land Rovers carrying 20 Argylls came under attack on a highway.
After radioing for back-up, they fixed bayonets and charged at 100 rebels using tactics learned in drills.
Charge ... tactics from drills
When the fighting ended bodies lay all over the highway and more were floating in a nearby river. Nine rebels were captured.
An Army spokesman said: This was an intense engagement.
The last bayonet charge was by the Scots Guards and the Paras against Argentinian positions.

I can see it now, many of the hollywood crowd suddenly supporting this war as they're going for starring roles in the many war flicks that are sure to come.
Surely hollywood wouldn't be hypocrits...would they?

...they sure as hell can't shoot and they apparently can't fight worth a damn, either. But must say they are good at dying. I guess if we had lives as miserable as they have we wouldn't place much value on them either.

Say what you will about empire, the British military honed its military strategy and tactics during the first half of the twentieth century. None are better. They know the populations, their cultures and their hot buttons.
What a delightful story.

"Israel should be able to defend itself without giving up half its territory, just as the U.S. defends itself. Honestly, when the War on Terror winds down, we (the U.S.) need to become less involved in that part of the world on either side, IMHO."
Question: Do you support the Bush Administration's ME policy?

Bayonets? It's been a long time since I've heard of them being thus employed. I would venture a guess that the Arabs had only guns w/o bayonets. Further, I do not note any mention of "prisoners" taken. Cold steel has a way of inducing panic in the enemy, which I think could easily be the case here.
