EXECUTION: FOUR HELD

Four people have been arrested over the beheading of American Nicholas Berg, Iraq sources say.

The 26-year-old businessman's decapitated body was found 10 days ago in Baghdad.

His killing was shown around the world on the internet.

The poor quality website video showed Berg dressed in orange overalls kneeling on the floor with his hands tied back.

There were five masked men behind him. One read a statement urging Muslims to take revenge over the abuse of Iraqi prisoners by American soldiers.

The masked men then pushed the American contractor to the floor and shouted "God is greatest" above his screams.

His head was cut off with a knife and then held aloft.

The website said the execution was performed by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, a top ally of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.

It is not known if he was among the four people arrested.

Nicholas Berg's headless body was found May 9 in western Baghdad. Three days later, a videotape posted on an al-Qaeda-related website showed him being decapitated by hooded men.

Berg's captors said the killing was to avenge abuses of Iraqi prisoners at Abu Ghraib prison by US forces.

How soon before the International Red Cross, Amesty International and every Democrat in the Senate demands to go over there to ensure nobody is sticking women's undies on their heads or making them wear maxi-pads?

After all, they're only suspected of slowly sawing off a man's head while he screamed in mindless agony...not of "torture".

BAGHDAD : Four people have been arrested over the beheading of US businessman Nicholas Berg, whose killing was shown earlier this month in a video on an Al-Qaeda linked website, a senior Iraqi source said.

Asked if more than one person had been arrested in connection with the killing, the source told AFP: "Yes, four people."

Berg's beheading was shown on a grainy video posted on the Islamic website linked to Osama bin Laden's terror network, days after his body was found in Baghdad on May 8.

"We have made good progress," the source added, referring to the investigation, but declined to give any details on the identity of the four people held in detention.

But it was understood that none of the four included Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi, who US authorities believe carried out the killing of the 26-year-old who was in Iraq to drum up business for his small telecommunications company.

The tape of Berg's killing was entitled "Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi slaughtering an American", referring to the Jordanian militant, linked to Al-Qaeda and wanted over a string of attacks in Iraq.

The video showed Berg's decapitation by one of five masked men. Iraqi sources would not say whether any of the four suspects in custody were among them, or whether the detainees were linked to the case in another way.

Berg's captors said his killing was revenge for the abuse of Iraqi prisoners at the hands of US troops, which shocked the world and undermined Washington's claim to be the liberators of Iraq.

The slain Jewish American was buried Friday in a private ceremony near his Pennsylvania home.

His family have blamed his death on US President George W. Bush's administration.

US Attorney General John Ashcroft has vowed to keep up the hunt for the killers who made a video.

I'm not sure what you are referring to. My reference is to the factual, i.e., OBL still not caught, the prison BS, the missing WMD stockpiles, etc. Yes, I know that there are good responses to those issues, but my point it is, it would be nice to have everything fall in place for a change -- like scooping up al-Zarqawi right away instead of having to mount another OBL marathon search.

Arab linguists have said the man posing as the Jordanian Zaraqawi did not speak with a Jordanian dialect. Others have suggested the man reading the written statement may not have been a native speaker of Arabic.

Zaraqawi was missing one leg and had been outfitted with an artificial leg that did not fit or function properly. He was unable to walk or stand normally with his ill-fitting limb. No man in the group showed evidence of such an infirmity.

Numerous indigenous sources have said Zaraqawi was killed by a US helicopter attack months ago when he was unable to move quickly enough to escape the targeted house. While others managed to exit the house in time to survive, he died in the collapsed building.
Not to mention the lack of spurting blood and movement during the cutting. If you cant tell this video has been edited then theres not much more I can do.

Im not saying 'Berg isnt dead, I'm just saying I think he was dead before the decapitation and that I dont believe it was specifically Al Zaraqawi that killed him. In other words I'm not buying the story as its put forth.

It amazes me to think that so many of you actually believe what you are spoon fed.

Just how many practicing jews that have been investigated for their connection to 9-11 terrorists end up bumming around Iraq looking for work with no corporate sponsorship AND end up being killed by Al Queda?

I think there is undoubtedly some questions about what happened to Berg, but not that he was beheaded and not that Zarqawi claimed credit for the beheading.
