Abdel-Zahraa Othman, also known as Izzadine Saleem, was in a car waiting to enter the compound housing the US-led coalition's headquarters.

Ten others were killed and six injured in the blast.

"He was in a convoy that stopped at the entrance to the Green Zone when the explosion happened," said Hamid al-Bayati, spokesman for the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq.

Some of his guards were also reportedly killed.

Salim took over on May 1 for a month's tenure as the head of the US-appointed Governing Council, a body which is the subject of fierce criticism by insurgents fighting coalition troops, who accuse it of collaborating with the US-led occupation.

Are you sure "unintended"? What about 'fly paper'? As Dennis Miller points out, there is no "Al-Quedaland" to invade... so we gotta bring them to us.

Islamic Fundamentalism and M1 tanks work well together creating cultural awareness and acceptance of the West over here. Better for them to charge the tanks outside the 'holy shrines of the holy neighborhoods, of the holy sections of the holy cities' of Iraq then for them to travel to the West and attack it's infrastructure and citizens.

To my knowledge we don't charge and kill Muslims in the West or demolish mosques to build churches. If moral relativism prevails however that may all change.

Americans, and most Iraqis btw, tend to side with civilization and liberty. So it becomes a waiting game, waiting for the gangsters, clerics and the media to run out of faithful followers who receive nothing from them but lies, empty promises, failure and death.

But when will the ordinary people drive these animals out of their cities, mosques, etc?

Before 6 am, CNN is much better than Fox News for breaking news. Fox will tell you about it at the hour and the half hour, then go back to playing yesterday's programs until Fox & Friends comes on at 6.

I'm not sure if CNN is genuinely 24 hrs per day or not, but I know they do have people there between 4-6 am.

Car bomb went off at checkpoint just outside the green zone. Huge crater! Must have been c-4 or ton of dynamite

It's probably because of that bureau they have in London.

I've always liked the "NBC News at Sunrise" program at 4:30 also. At least it was pretty good until they got rid of Nanette Hanson.

When BG Kimmett was on CNN he speculated that it was a couple of artillery rounds in the backseat or trunk of the suicide car.

Can we get serious about killing these bastards now?

How dare you use such language!! According to Democrats and the media this is the noble Iraqi "resistance" which is merely fighting the American "occupation"

Islam! The assassination's cult. The religion of the bomb! Imagine what Mad Mo' could have done if dynamite were around back then.

"But hasn't the media assured us that the war against al-Qaeda has absolutely nothing to do with Iraq?"

Self-fulfilling prophecy.

Bush must take serious action against Fallujah, he must kill Sadr, and he has got to take action against the Baathists in Syria and the Ayatollahs in Iran who are supporting this.

Unless the U.S. takes off its gloves, we won't be able to find ANYONE in Iraq to support us and we will loose all our coalition members who will justifiably be reluctant to committ their people in a war fought with one arm tied behind their backs.

We must stop worrying about Arab or Muslim world opinion. They hate us for the most part, and if they were capapble of doing anything more to disrupt our operations they would.
But they can't do anything beyond what we are permitting them to do right now.

What a thought! It's true that contemporary Islam would be severely handicapped without Semtex.

If JF'NK and the DU'ers take control of the White House we will pay for decades to come.

Just close your eyes and imagine Jimmy Carter on Steroids.

Thirty years later and we are still paying for Carter's ignorance and naivety. It will take at least that long to undo Kerry's work if elected.

I fear that our enemies might be right in one regard - most Americans don't have the courage to see this nation through tough times. Sacrifice, due diligence, and the desire to overcome seems to be lost on most in this nation. We have become a nation of lazy, self-serving people.

No the sky is not falling; but the storm clouds are gathering in the distance.

They already are in many cases. There's no coalesced opinion right now, imo that's why the Coalition is playing a light hand with the Shiites. Many Shiites know this and some are even critical of the Coalition's inaction.
