I want to throw out a question to fellow FReepers out there: Now that Massachusetts courts have forced homosexual/perverted "marriage" on that state--and the fact that the "full faith and credit" clause of the Constitution will force every other state to deal with it--what will your reaction be?
I'm assuming, of course, that consistant conservatives (please shut-up libertarians, this question is not for you, OK?) will fight it, hopefully with a constitutional ammendment. There is however, a lot of doubt that such an ammendment will ever pass, and even if it does, it will take several years. Surely other states (perhaps Oregon and California for example) will quickly follow Mass's example down the rabit hole. So lets say, dark-side (but actually realistic, in this case) scenario, that an ammendment fails, or that before it passes YOUR state demands that YOU recognize homosexual "couples" as married. What will you do?
I for one, simply will NOT recognize any court or legislature which presumes to change the divinely established institution of marriage. If I am a landlord, I will refuse to rent to them. If I worked in a courthouse, I would refuse to issue them a license--due to conscience. If I am in other places of authority, I simply will not recognize law such as this, which flies in the face of God ordained law and principle.
No doubt this will be called "bigotry" by the Left--and many so-called moderates too--and compared to Jim Crow attitudes of yesteryear. However, my conscience on sexual behavior is NOT, nor will it ever be biggoted or Jim Crow--I just hope people who believe as I do will stand up and be counted, even if it hurts. We will not be faithful Americans if we do not.
What will I do about it???
Not marry a guy.
Another yawn here from me.
The world didn't end yesterday, what with all these gay married people.
i am curious what will happen with the first divorce though.
Welcome to FreeRepublic
The bible, if you will actually read it, speaks much more strongly against homosexuality than against tattoos or other Leviticus laws.
Also, if you will try to use capitalization, proper sentence structure and formatting, you may receive more replies to your questions. Just a simple matter of politeness to those you want to read your posting.
Hang the whole thing on every Leftist/Democrat/RINO in the country like a cheap suit.
That's what I will do.
I consider it a diversion. Knowing that Bush is against this , they intend to get as many people all lathered up for political points. Wait till they have the first homosexual divorce, whew, that'll end it.
You are so right. Persecution for the Christians in THIS COUNTRY is coming.
I have contacted my Representatives and my Senators. They are all in favor of a marriage amendment (they say they are) but they are not willing to take a stand. Most Americans don't give a crap unless it has to do with American Idol or making their SUV payment.
What have you been "doing" about abortion for the last 30 years?
BTW, where did you get the idea that libertarianism is at odds with conservatism?
There IS a 'libertarian' strain that shrugs its shoulders at the gay agenda.
It is glaringly obvious on this very thread from several posters.
The modern liberal, and some who call themselves libertarians, have lost the true meaning of the word liberty as understood by the founders of this free republic.
They have mistakenly embraced what those who built this land with blood, sweat and tears would have called LICENCE.
True liberty and license are mutually exclusive, in reality.
True liberty is the freedom to do good.
It is not the freedom to do evil.
Vote in November to ban gay marriage in Mississippi right after I vote for GW. Haley in '08!
I believe we should treat this the same way we treat Moslems with a "second wife."
For all legal purposes, the marriage does not exist.
Wake Up!
Ya snooze, ya lose...
That's what they say
Are you still asleep
While our nation decays?
Does it wake you up
When groom 'marries' groom?
Are you totally unconscious
Of approaching doom?
When the tyrants in robes
Sit on the bench
And fill the land
With their lawless stench
Are you still asleep?
Are you on your knees?
Are you fighting the fight
Against this sleaze?
To die in bed
At a ripe old age
Is an honorable way
To depart this stage
But to sleep in the hour
Of your countries need
Is truly a shame
It is indeed!

Quite true. Funny how nobody calls for the repeal of the 1st Amendment because it specifically permits actions which violate several of the Ten Commandments.
list of people to contact who can DO something to pass FMA.

You know, I'm glad you asked, because it just made me aware of something else I could do. I can talk to other likeminded activists and ask them to buttonhole him too. I know some of them have written him off as a RINO and just don't start conversations with him at all. But if more of them do what I did - especially in a tight election year - it could hopefully tip the balance and get him to get solidly behind the FMA.
National level, Longterm: Conservatives need to do the same thing with the Entertainment industry that we've done with the News industry - namely, do an end run around them. Until Rush (and the other talkshows) and FoxNews came along, the liberals had a near 100% lock on news. Now they're forced to share a huge chunk of their former power with conservatives.
But where we are still losing bigtime to the Leftists is in the Entertainment industry - TV & movies - where a few hundred scriptwriters marching pretty much in lockstep are convincing an ever larger chunk of the electorate every year that people who are against gay marriage are stupid, bigoted, hateful people with pointy-hooded sheets in their closets. (Look how completely they've converted the RINOs and Libertarians to this viewpoint!)
What we need is an anti-Hollywood that puts out movies from our point of view. Gibson's movie proved that religious movies are not DOA at the box office. Religious-themed movies made by the average Tinseltown movie houses usually are DOA, but movies made by deeply religious people are almost always successful if they are also well made (unfortunately that last caveat is not always a given).
But what about movies that aren't necessarily religiously themed, but have a conservative point of view? Of course you can't "over-preach" your side of the story. You have to keep the level of entertainment high, while inserting those little swipes against the other side here and there, just like they do to us.
PC culture, New Age culture, Leftist Boomer culture, etc. - these are all so ridiculous and self-contradictory in so many, many ways that they are just BEGGING for ridicule. I know a lot of people think ridicule is a nasty weapon that might even be banned by the Geneva Convention. But ridicule is a powerful weapon. It's used against us conservatives constantly. Why not use it back?
What do you mean coming....the Evil dums have been at it for 30 years.
