CBS News: Enemy Of The State

Commentary on the News
Wednesday, May 12, 2004
Ed Mlynar - Omega Staff Writer

Shortly after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, they began their next wave of attacks on the United States. It wasn’t the type of attack that was expected. It did not involve troops and military equipment. It involved small hot air balloons carrying 33 pounds worth of explosives.

Approximately 5,000 of these balloons were sent across the Pacific to the American homeland. They caused a few forest fires in the mid-west. One hit a power plant near Los Alamos, almost causing the first nuclear meltdown and an end to the atomic bomb research that was happening there. One balloon even made it as far as Detroit, Michigan.

There are only three recorded deaths from these balloons. A woman and her two young children died when one of the devices landed in their back yard.

It is amazing that any of these balloons made it over the Pacific Ocean at all. But there is something even more amazing than that.

No news outlet in the United States published anything about these balloons. In fact, most Americans were ignorant of their existence until well after the war was over.

Try to imagine what would have happened if the Japanese found out that their bomb-balloons, which has to be the cheapest intercontinental weapons ever devised, were actually effective. If they knew the balloons were making it across the ocean, the war would have been much different.

There would have been hundred of thousands of balloons sent. The terrorizing effects on the homeland would have been devastating. The troops fighting the Japanese would have been demoralized, wondering if a balloon was going to drop on their family. The will to fight would have been completely destroyed.

It was not a matter of censorship. No news outlet cried out about violations of the First Amendment when they were asked not to print stories about these balloons. It was a sense of responsibility that kept them from not publishing any stories about bombs dropping from the sky. They simply had to ask themselves the following question:

Who does it serve to publish the story?

Fast-forward to 2004. America is in ideological struggle against an enemy who believes that death will send them to paradise and that the American way of life is forbidden by their god. They know that they cannot defeat America on a conventional battlefield so they employ every other type of warfare they can, ranging from propaganda to terrorism to psychological warfare.

Pictures of Americans abusing military prisoners are sent to CBS producers and they have a decision to make. Should they publish the pictures or not?

If there was any sense of responsibility on the part of the producers, the answer should have been clear. However, CBS has never been known for their sense of responsibility.

They could have run a story about seven soldiers who had charges brought up against them for abusing Iraqi prisoners. A few isolated cases. No pictures were needed. It could have been a story about America serving justice by not tolerating their our own troops acting in the same manner as the enemy.

They could have sent the pictures to the Department of Defense with the message "we, the press, are watching so you had better stop this". The purpose of the press is to be the watch dog of the government, not the snitch.

But instead, the producers at CBS decided to declare war on the United States and published the pictures. They asked the question "who does this serve" and the answer was themselves.

When an enemy of the United States receives help from other countries or organizations, those other countries and organizations are referred to as "allies of the enemy" or, more accurately, an enemy of the United States.

CBS can be described in no other way.

On Tuesday, May 11, Nick Berg was beheaded in front of the camera due to the reports of prisoner abuse by American troops. Another, and perhaps more accurate way of phrasing it is that Nick Berg was murdered because of CBS news.

Don’t think that CBS has learned about journalistic responsibility. Don’t think for a minute that they are done inciting our enemy into murdering more Americans.

CBS plans to air an American soldier’s video diary which has a soldier describing how much she doesn’t care for the Iraqi prisoners. What other purpose can this story serve than to incite our enemy?

How many Americans are going to die at the hands of CBS producers?

There is an old saying that states the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Islamic terrorists around the world have found a friend with CBS as they both have the same enemy: American citizens.

Paul describes these people perfectly in his second letter to Timothy as "treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit" (2 Tim 3:3). He also provides sound advice on what to do when we come across people like this.

"Avoid such people."

It is time that Americans start avoiding CBS.

The America that existed during WWII no longer exists. The USA is a failing nation. I do believe that the American people will wake up and re-elect GW Bush this coming November. What stuns me is how many Americans cannot grasp the Devil awaiting at the door! I also believe that GW Bush, by trying to play nice with the Sunni's in Iraq has hurt his election chances. I think a good dose of whoop butt is needed. He can start in Najif and kill that Mullah IMHO!

We have a full scale outbreak of sedition and treason facing us.

In the UK, the Daily Mirror has finally admitted the pictures they posted of supposed atrocities by British troops were a hoax.

In Boston, the Boston Globe published pictures taken from a porno website and claimed they were American soldiers raping Iraqi women. Incredibly, they claim to have made nothing more then a simple mistake and buried a minor retraction.

Both the Mirror and Globe pictures will live on in the Arabic press, as the writers and editors at both papers were fully aware...

Almost all the major news media, of course, continue to pump the Abu Ghirab story. Though the only evidence is of the dereliction of seven or eight soldiers, the press continue to make ludicrous claims that this was a planned policy going all the way to the Sec Def.

And while they publish the graphic pictures from Abu Ghirab without a thought as to what the effect might be, they censor coverage of the murder of Nick Berg as they censored coverage of 9/11 before.

There is no way to look at this and come to any conclusion but that these people are purposely engaged in treason. The aim is to make America lose the war, as they hope such can be used to bring down the President.

The thing is they don't even try to hide their intentions.

I'm totally convinced.

Since nobody but trailer park dwellers and those that live in retirement homes sit in front of the tube that is tuned into cbsnbcabc, it really doesn't matter what they say. Nobody is listening, anyway.

Wasn't it CBS who embargoed the pics and the story for two weeks, until it came out elsewhere. Chill. I think the demonizing of CBS et al. is juvenile, and is done too much on this forum, and I'm tired of it. There are multiple news sources these days, the radio talk shows are dominated by conservatives, Foxnews spins the other way, and does so blatently, and says "fair and balanced" with a smile just to engage the libs, and the whole rant thing about the media being a leftist jihad is so out of date. JMO. It is time to move on.

I'm sorry, but I respectfully disagree with the title of this essay.

CBS News is NOT the Enemy of the State.

They are only opposed to the State when it is run by Republicans.

Well, it becomes clear to me now why they have spent so much time demonizing Ashcroft and claiming that their civil liberties are in jeopardy.

If Ashcroft rightly comes after them for treason/sedition they can now shreak that in fact the evil fascist government is coming to get them like they thought it would all along.

Let's be clear - Tokyo Rose did nothing the Boston Globe hasn't...

We are the ones who have to wake America up and point out the 'enemy within'.

I utterly hate the alphabet network "news" organizations. FoxNews is the only network that even comes close to being fair and balanced.

Since objectivity is so rare on the other networks, FoxNews looks conservative in contrast when they actually present both sides of an issue. Even then, they are often more left than I like.

The media will be this nation's downfall if we are not careful.

If Ashcroft rightly comes after them for treason/sedition

1) The US currently has no laws against "sedition"

2) There have been only 40 Federal Treason prosecutions in the history of the US, and a lot fewer convictions.

Monkees will fly out of my butt and Hilary Clinton will be a Playboy Centerfold before any US media outlet is prosecuted for treason. Any attempt to do so would be shot down so quickly by the courts it would make your head spin.

How does that famous quote go?

"Treason doth never prosper.
What's the reason?
Why, when it prospers,
none dare call it treason."
Sir John Harrington

Well, I dare call it treason, as does the writer of this article. Up front and in their face. With a pistol in my hand.

Now you are entitled to your opinion, but that being the case, please let us hear no complaints, when the Muslim terrorists utter to you, next!! You remind me of the atheist in the fox hole. There are none!!!! May the Lord watch over you and your loved ones. The main stream media, John Kerry and the current "traitor" Democrat Party certainly won't. FDR, HST and JFK must be turning in their graves at the sight of their beloved political party failing to protect America and Americans. Have fun!!! Hope you are not Jewish, cause if you are, and are voting Democrat you are voting for your own doom!!! Go to it, yes!!!

What stuns me is how many Americans cannot grasp the Devil awaiting at the door!

I can understand why they don't. Most are busy living their lives, raising their families, doing their jobs, etc. They may have time to catch a 30-minute newscast on TV. They don't have/take time to analyze and delve in depth into the daily news.

And they shouldn't have to. They elect 'agents' who should represent their interests at all levels, from local councils to the US Congress and Presidency.

Were Americans to take more time in watching Washington, they would be shocked and surprised that the 30-minutes nightly filtered news is, many times, far removed from reality. Case in point is the molehill prisoner abuse photos that the liberal media have exploded into a mountain--for no other reason than to discredit and embarrass the administration and, hopefully, get a resignation or two from the Bush cabinet. Pure politics---but the average citizen is too busy to pay much attention.

Well you got the atheist part right (sort of), and the Jewish part wrong. 500 (sort of) is a great batting average in baseball. Regards.
