May 14, 2004 -- THE murder of Nick Berg, a 26-year-old American businessman, by a group of Islamist terrorists in Iraq continues to send shock waves through much of the West. What has impressed most people is the fact that the terrorists cut Mr. Berg's head in the way that sheep are beheaded at the annual Feast of the Sacrifice.

I agree with you about the French Revolution, it was IMO basically a grotesque parody of the American Revolution. We acknowledged a Creator, they acknowledged scientific rationality. IMO that accounted for much of the difference!

For the Islamic CULT, it is a religious rite, in which the executers praise their god while doing their evil deed. The French and British did it solely as punishment.

True, and don't get me wrong here. I was putting the European's practice in historic context, not trying to excuse the muslim ghouls.
Two books turned me around from the romantic treatment I received in school: Simon Schama's "Citizens" and Burke's "Notes on the French Revolution." Schama's a leftist who's been denounced here for some idiotic remarks made against the war, but I think he gives a responsible account. Burke is my hero, maybe the best conservative rhetorician of his or our time.
The more I read about islam, the more I'm reminded of the proverb: "By their fruits shall you know them." The only fruits of islam I've seen is savagery and hatred and it seems no different than the pagan religions of the Old Testament with their human sacrifices.
