On a related note, can anyone who is familiar with these Indian political parties comment on what effect this power shift will have on the Indian high-tech industry?

Vajpayee's statment earlier today after resigning:

Shortly after resigning as prime minister in view of the National Democratic Alliance's stunning defeat in the Lok Sabha election, Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Thursday night pledged to "extend our hand of cooperation to the new government in all its endeavours that are in the interest of the nation and the people."

"We have given up office, but not our responsibility to serve the nation. We have lost an election, but not our determination," he said in an address to the nation.

"Victory and defeat are a part of life, which are to be viewed with equanimity," he said.

Vajpayee, who submitted his resignation to President A P J Kalam at Rashtrapati Bhavan, said, "Elections to the 14th Lok Sabha are over. The voters have given their verdict. I accept the verdict."

The PM had a special word of thanks to the people of Jammu and Kashmir for once again reposing their faith in democracy and for giving a firm rebuff to the forces of militancy.

"India has shown its resolve and capability to overcome the challenge of cross-border terrorism," he said.

It's your opinion, not facts. The opinions like The Congress Party, receiving huge sums of money from Muslim and Arab-based foreign sources
have no factual basis.

In West Bengal for example, the Communist Party of India (CPI-M, the “M” stands for Marxist) pretty much ran the state. We now see a shift away from the hard left among the people, in part thanks to the rising middle class of former poor there thanks to the policies of the conservative administration which has now just lost power, these former constituencies leaving the far communist left and “joining the middle”. However, in this case, “joining the middle” is joining the Congress Party, which is really joining the socialist party.

The Left Front increased its tally in West Bengal. What's happenign, IMO, is that the LF itself is moving ever so slightly away from the hard left.

receipients of Saddam Hussain's "oil-fund-for-influence"
