Berg's encounter with "terrorist" revealed
CNN ^ | 5/13/04 | Kelli Arena

According to Berg, his son was taking a course a few years ago at a remote campus of the University of Oklahoma near an airport. He described how on one particular day, his son met "some terrorist people -- who no one knew were terrorists at the time."

At one point during the bus ride, Berg said, the man sitting next to his son asked if he could use Nick's laptop computer.

"It turned out this guy was a terrorist and that he, you know, used my son's e-mail, amongst many other people's e-mail who he did the same thing to," Berg said.

Government sources said Berg gave the man his password, which was later used by Moussaoui, the sources said.

He didn't have an Israeli passport, he had an Israeli stamp on his US passport- same as anyone would if they had ever traveled to Israel - whether they were palestinians, jews or whatever.

Maybe he was working on Michael Moore's project. He said he has people in Iraq documenting issues with our troops.

>The father keeps referring to his son as a friend of the terrorists. That's troubling to me.

What are the odds? The real explanation is that leftist activists hung out with Al-Queda types and talked about how bad the US and Israel are. Not that his father knew Mousaui was a terrorist, just they travelled in the same circles. I bet this pattern is probably repeated in other cities where recent ME immigrants and old line lefists (communists) are present.

"Whoever was next to my son was treated with great respect and friendship. Like I said, he knew no dangers from people. The FBI were satisfied with that."

Typical peacenik logic. I'm really starting to believe Berg was one of those "human shield" types that think the U.S. is the only source of evil in the world and everyone else can be won over with peaceful thoughts and good intentions. Surely, if his Dad was a member of A.N.S.W.E.R., it's not hard to think the son absorbed this skullful-of-mush ideology and tried to practice it.

OTOH, he may have been more involved with AQ than the media wants us to believe. I still have a lot of questions here.

I saw the portion on tv and Nick seemed as though he had no concerns of his life being in danger, his sighs like they were wasting his time by having to sit while they read a stupid letter.

Did I misread something in the clip?

I Cant watch the whole video.

>But they saw the Jewish name Berg, and the Israeli passport stamp, and that trumped his ANSWER credentials. [snip]That's why Daddy Berg (Mr. ANSWER) said "They killed their best friend."

>The above is pure speculation on my part.

Pretty good speculation. It's the Daniel Perl syndrome. Perl believed his leftist credentials and pro-Pali sympathies protected him in arab areas and allowed him special access to terrorists.

That's what I'm trying to figure, the odds. The pieces are dribbling out becoming more fantastic as we go.

Some possibilities (just throwing ideas out):

He went and offered himself to be used as a bargaining chip for the release of Al-Queda agents under our control.

He was working for the CIA and was found out. People who knew him have said he was a great guy who didn't believe in his father's politics.

He was friends with Al-Queda operatives, like Dialup Llama states, and was attempting to help them in some way when it blew up in his face.

I'm convinced something else is going on here. We've only heard part of the story. The guy's dad is clearly a leftist wacko, and I wouldn't be surprised to find out the son was actually working in some way with the islamo-fascists. Nevertheless, the beheading proves just how barbaric these guys are.

Wow, I was thinking Berg was just a naive good soul. Well, he still could have been but some of this other information is troubling/odd. I still think someone from the Iraqi police tipped off some radicals to his whereabouts.

http://www.registerguard.com/news/2004/05/13/a1.iraqberg.0513.html

He told friends an Israeli stamp in his passport had made the Iraqis especially hostile.

I don't know. It's a mystery. Just like Timothy McVeigh is still a mystery. We'll probably never know the whole truth. I don't like to believe that their is a conspiracy behind everything in life, but this is weird.

Eh, not entirely true. The first posts this afternoon claimed Berg was Moussaoui's ROOMATE.

Then Fox claimed Moussaoui got Berg's password directly from Berg.

And now CNN is stating that Moussaoui never met Berg and got his password through a third party.

What's the most accurate then? I really don't have the weeks that's necessary to read every post to get a clue of what's really going on.

I'm leaning towards trusting FOX.

The FBI put a 13 day hold on an antenna repairman and asked him why he was in Iran, not if he had been to Iran, but why did he go there.

My understanding is that Iran doesn't allow Israeli or Israeli stamped passports without a special visa from their foreign ministry. I don't think Mossad or our intel was behind this guy. Methinks he was hooked up to the enemy somehow.
