May 13, 2004 -- ALBANY - The latest Assembly sex scandal is just the "tip of the iceberg" of a far wider system of aggressive exploitation of young women in the state Legislature's intern program, a former official has told The Post. "The Assembly intern program is like a 'canned hunt' for these young women," said the ex-Assembly official.

The source spoke in the wake of the claim by a 19-year-old college intern that Harlem Democratic Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV plied her with booze and, possibly, raped her last week. I'm sure that the left will be up in arms over this. After all, we all know their stance on underage drinking after those reports we saw on the President's daughters.

"When you look at an Assembly person a liberal from the outside, you have a view about them. But after working with them, you see a totally different person from what you thought," she said (referring to obnoxious behavior after getting past the projected compassionate demur).

There's even state lawmakers' so-called "Bear Mountain Compact," under which sexual activities taking place north of the Bear Mountain Bridge - that is, far from New York City - are acceptable and not discussed back home.
What happens in Albany stays in Albany. And just like Vegas, the House always takes your money.
They have been raping the innocent taxpayers of the state of New York for years. It doesn't surprise me that they'd actually rape an innocent woman.

The thing that gets me is a report I heard on the local cable channel news up here to the effect that they need to strengthen the sexual harassment training the legislators receive. WTFO!
The liability lawsuit mentality---"well they didn't tell me I couldn't do X with it..."---finds its way to sexual matters. That we have to give courses in sexual harassment at all to the people who write the effing sexual harassment laws is absurd let alone that the solution to a legislator hammering an intern is a stronger course on what not to do.
How hard is this to understand: Don't touch the interns. Don't kiss them. Don't put your hands on their butts. Don't take out your johnson and try to impress them by writing your name in the snow. Don't touch the interns.
I just want to point out something while I'm ranting about the NY State legislature, and this goes for all state legislatures. These are the folks who vote on Constitutional amendments. The same folks who continue to foist smoking bans across the country and play pin the jockstrap on the intern, are the ones the Founding Fathers entrusted to keep amendments from being implemented by the mob. When the amendment comes up to allow foreigners to become President, do you really feel secure that they are going to take time out from smoking in their private offices while the intern du jour under the desk is taking dictation to prevent the electoral takeover of our nation?

he'll pursue new regulations to protect interns from sexual abuse and exploitation. Yep, if only there'd been a law, this wouldn't have happened. There probably was a law, but Bush gutted it.

Adam Clayton Powell IV Now there's a name I haven't seen in a while. Do you think there is a Billy Sol Estes III out there some where?

Seventy years ago the Illinois Legislature had a class of employees known as "monkey girls." So called because they held onto their jobs with their tails.

I have to admit, while I sympathize with anyone who was coerced, I would never give in to the advances of a congressperson just because of who they were.
That is something that women seem to do. Sorry, if you're blowing an assemblyman in his office, isn't that on you as much as it is on him?(no pun intended)
OK, I might consider giving into a politician if and when Catherine Zeta Jones or Jessica Alba run for office.

Yadda yadda yadda blah blah blah. It's nothing new that elective office guarantees admission to a big sex and booze party. What goes on in Albany pales compared to the orgy in Washington. Please...just throw the bums out!

Never heard that one. I wonder if we can charge these guys with illegal prostitution since they are running at the very least a brothal at the taxpayer's expense? What about the Rico Act.

Police in Colonie, an Albany suburb, continued the investigation of Powell yesterday, a day after it was learned that the intern who initially accused Powell had changed her story hours later and said she had agreed to consensual sex. Colonie Police Chief Steve Heider said a decision on whether to pursue criminal charges was at least a day away. Cops plan to speak with the woman tomorrow.
Powell's lawyer, Murray Richman, said the investigation should be dropped.
"It's a feeding frenzy over nothing," Richman said. "Obviously, based on her comments, there's no truth to the charges of sexual abuse or rape."
Looks like somebody passed some money to her under the table. She's obviously been bought off to keep quiet, just like Monica
