I've never seen anything like it in American pop-culture. Joss Whedon just introduced a new character who's a bleached-blond United States Senator and who intends to become President in 2008. Her most trusted aid is a vampire, and she's a member of the Circle of the Black Thorn - the most evil assemblage of characters in the history of the greater Buffy-verse [kind of like a Justice League of America, only for evil, not good].
Talk about your full body slams... All I can say is: WOW!
Overstating, much? The theme of personal responsibilty and actions having consequemces is hardly leftist.
And serious PC?. From the introduction of the clueless warm, fuzzy, princiPAL in the first episode of Buffy there was a fairly steady mocking of PC.
As in the Liberal Guilt for Extermination of the Indians episode "Pangs"
Buffy : ... And native american.
Giles : Sorry?
Buffy : We don't say "indian."
Giles : Oh, right. Yes, yes. Um, always behind on the terms. Still trying not to refer to you lot as "bloody colonials."
And the closing moral of the episode where Willow, previous voice of liberal outrage, confesses.
Willow : It's just...Did you see me? 2 Seconds of conflict with an indigenous person, and I turned into General Custer.
Look the guy describes himself as a radical feminist. So it would be "understatement" not "overstatement".
I agree there were some un-PC stuff in the series and I enjoyed watching "Firefly", "Angle", and "Buffy" and it was an OK 42 minutes of TV compared to the other crap being broadcast. I loved the dry humor and wit of Angle, Spike, and Giles plus the all the actors gave good performances. Not to mention the super hot and witty evil vixen Glory. But like it or not the shows had many way Leftist moments. Here are a few more examples of his leftist bent in the shows besides the Dixie Chicks thing.
When Oz thought he was the killer werewolf they scripted in the "leftist stereotype" of a hunter trying to track him down. During the Buffy fight with the hunter they threw in a tirade about the evils of hunting and guns. Which was really ironic since she is a vampire hunter. But only in Hoollyweird would it be wooden stakes good, guns bad. Girl vampire killer good, Man freelance werewolf killer bad. Yeah right.
Skip ahead a couple of seasons and low and behold we have a episode on the evils of handguns with Tara being killed with a stray bullet that came through a house.
Then in a show with Angle in a fight somehow in a very tortured way they work in the line "In this country the guy who gets the most votes doesn't get to be president either." Implying W cheated is why Algore lost the race. At that point I was hoping the villain was going to say "Hey Josh, want a civics lesson? Ever heard of the electoral college dude? BTW Josh we live in a "Free Republic" and not in a Democratic Mob-Rules Tyranny."
Then we had the whole Willow becomes a homo thing which was pointless because it added zero, zip, nada to the story and overall entertainment value of the show. It was a distraction from the show. The only reason for doing this is the PC driven liberal agenda of promoting the idea that homosexuality is somehow normal and hoollyweird is intent on shoving it down America's throat.(Pun intended) Once again my irony meter was pegged out when Xander hits on Willow, after his breakup with Onya, she replies "I can't change who I am."(freeze frame video and insert scratching record sound){ Well gee Willow , you quit being a heterosexual to become a homosexual but now all of sudden you can't quit being homosexual and become a heterosexual? OhhhKaaay... Yeah Right....... }implying the misconception that people are born into homosexuality.
Then there is the "Raising Dawn" issue. Whether he intended to or not the script for it came straight out of "It Takes a Village" by Hillary Clinton. We had single mother, single sister(later thrust into single mother role), two lesbian witches, a fatherly caretaker figure, a boyfriend and half human\half demon girlfriend, and a vampire all raising Dawn.
Bottom line the guy has talent and has written some good TV and movie moments. But to try and spin it that he is not PC and a leftist is a bit much. Unless you going to say he did not have control over the content of the shows. But if you read anything at all about him it is all about having control over his own writing and shows.
He described himself as a liberal at The Bronze, actually. Not too surprising for some reason.
Anyone see the final tonight? Liberal or not, Joss's final kicked serious arse. One of the best series finale's ever, even if it did end on sort of a cliffhanger.
Sniff...It was an excellent finale. I'm gonna miss it.

I watched it, and rewatched it... and was absurdly depressed, and cussy at WB.
What a great episode. It had everything you love about Whedon (if you like him at all): crackling dialogue, plot-180's, feeling.... And yep, I laughed and I gasped and I cried. Both times.
I haven't loved how shruggy Boreanaz was about Angel ending. I don't know what career-future he thinks he has, now. He was a good Angel, but strikes me as a limited actor.
Marsters and Dennisof, though... wow. And who knew what Amy Acker had; sad about what happened to Fred, but nice to see that Acker has range.
Dang, I'm going to miss that show. Even with Whedon being an aggressively clueless liberal. Idiot suits at WB.

I was just providing info. I actually wasn't sure if you knew that little piece of information.
He's limited, but I could see him in a few roles. I always thought he'd make the perfect Batman/Bruce Wayne -- but that role already went to Christian Bale. He plays dark and brooding well, and sarcastic and cunningly evil well. Still, I guess that is limited range. Maybe there's hope for a tv movie in a year from now after Borenaz finds out he doesn't like unemployment.
