Air America Host 'Jokingly' Calls for Bush Hit

One of the leading hosts on the unofficial radio network of the Democratic Party recommended in an apparent "joke" earlier this week that President Bush should be assassinated, reports the New York Daily News.

Comparing Bush and his family to the Corleones of "Godfather" fame, Air America host Randi Rhodes reportedly unleashed this zinger during her Monday night broadcast: "Like Fredo, somebody ought to take him out fishing and phuw. "

Rhodes then imitated the sound of a gunshot.

In "Godfather II," Fredo Corleone is executed by brother Michael at the end of the film.

Even joking allusions to the death of high government officials sometimes bring harsh consequences to the offending radio host.

In 1996, when reports indicated that a lone passenger had survived the crash of a plane carrying then-Commerce Secretary Ron Brown, New York radio host Bob Grant joked: "I have a hunch that survivor is Ron Brown. But I'm a pessimist at heart."

Grant was dropped from WABC Radio over the quip, despite ratings that made him the top talk radio host in New York City. He was picked up two weeks later by WOR, which broadcasts "The Bob Grant Show" from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

It could not be determined by press time whether the Secret Service had launched a formal investigation into the Rhodes knee-slapper, as it normally does when the president's life is threatened - even jokingly.

I have an idea. Let's hang Randi Rhodes from the Tappanzee bridge by her ankles, with a jock strap(preferably worn by a sweaty football player)over her head.

Note that I didn't say "take her fishing"...

Damn. I hope that investigation includes a cavity search. Is a threat to the President considered "indecent" by the FCC and subjectible to fines?

But ultimately, it's THIS Randy Rhodes that matters most!

I'm listening to that stack of garbage right now. She just had a caller that claimed to be the father of a reservist serving in Iraq. According to him (the son) his entire unit is against Bush and he hasn't met a single person in Iraq that is going to vote for Bush.

Yeah, right.

She then went into a diatribe about our troops not having any food and how they aren't allowed "second helpings".

Someone needs to tell her about Bastogne.

She just called reservists "weekend warriors". What a piece of trash.

I just have to add... she just said that the savage murder of Nick Berg was justified because of the civilian dead in Iraq.

This woman is evil... pure evil.

Of course, I'm just joking, but I would dearly love to see the Secret Service clap some handcuffs on this Big Mouth Bass and the FL Dem Club who put out the hit ad on Rummy.
Now wouldn't that be funny, Randi?

THREATS AGAINST PRESIDENT - 18 USC 871, makes it a Federal crime or offense for anyone to willfully make a true threat to injure or kill the President of the United States.

A person can be found guilty of that offense only if all of the following facts are proved beyond a reasonable doubt:

First: That the person uttered words alleged to be the threat against the President;

Second: That the person understood and meant the words he used as a true threat; and

Third: That the person uttered the words knowingly and willfully.

A "threat" is a statement expressing an intention to kill or injure the President; and a "true threat" means a serious threat as distinguished from words used as mere political argument, idle or careless talk, or something said in a joking manner.

The essence of the offense is the knowing and willful making of a true threat. So, if it is proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the person knowingly made a true threat against the President, willfully intending that it be understood by others as a serious threat, then the offense is complete; it is not necessary to prove that the person actually intended to carry out the threat

I didn't know there were any Air "France" stations left!

Likewise! I read the headline and thought in amazement, "Are they still on the air??"
