Kristinn just called me and asked me to post this thread.

He just called CBS Evening News and asked them if they were going to show the militant Islamists' video of the beheading of American Nick Berg.

The woman who answered the phone said that they were going to do a story on it, but they were NOT going to show the full video.

He asked them, "Why not, since you had no problem showing the pictures of the Iraqis being abused by our guys in the prison. Don't you think turnabout is fair play?"

The woman got mad and said, "Thank you for your comment." and then hung up the phone.

I would consider such a broadcast to be in extremely poor taste and unnecessarily inconsiderate of the victim's friends, family and loved ones.

Unless you could somehow arrange to view the video aboard a Maglev . . .

Yes it is wrong. BUT it was also wrong for Rather and the rest of the media...INCLUDING FREEREPUBLIC to post pics of soldiers in compromising positions...especially their names and faces!

Our military and our civilian leadership and our media should have should have kept this inhouse.

I went to get gas for my lawn mower, and a guy there was complaining about the price and "Busheconomics". I was NOT nice. I tell you...I'm not taking any more guff off anyone who whines and blames Bush for everything under the sun. Those gas prices are high in part because of all the different blends demanded by the eco freaks.

Chris Core, the (usually wishy-washy) radio guy on WMAL-AM 630 in DC has just ended the half-hour with a comment to his listeners, telling them that he has emailed CBS News and told them that they owed it to the American people to show the video; and he encouraged all his listeners to do the same.

Oh. I didn't know that.

Please don't post a link if anyone finds a "cheer" at DU that one more Bush voter could be out of the election.

Thanks for the ping. Even though I sent an email earlier this afternoon to (Rather)at 60II@cbsnews.com telling him he had blood on his hands, I also just called. Woman said, oh, no we can't show the video, it's just too gruesome. I said please note in your records that there would not have been this beheading, if CBS hadn't aired the photos. Snottily, she said "well, that's your opinion." Me - yes it is; please make a notation in your records.

....understand how airing the video of the beheading is "over-the-top" for American television.

So was airing the prison videos.

The U.S. Army announced last January that there had been "cruelty and sexual abuse of detainees". The U.S. Army conducted a very thorough investigation and prosecutions were being prepared. The entire world did not need to see the inflammatory photos. That added absolutely nothing to the story.

The inflammatory nature of those photos created the media circus that the Islamists claimed was their justification for beheading Nick Berg.

I don't want CBS to actually air that video.

I do want CBS to be hoisted on it's own petard.

There was no need to keep showing those photo's from the prison over and over and over ..

As deplorable as the prisoner maltreatment scandal is, those acts to not rise to the level of atrocity committed by the terrorists with this beheading. Frankly, I think your insistance on equating the two incidents is misguided and plays into the hand of the anti-war Islamo-sympathizers.
