FREEP CBS EVENING NEWS NOW !! (Beheading video)
kristinn | May 11, 2004 | self

Posted on 05/11/2004 2:57:03 PM PDT by tgslTakoma

Kristinn just called me and asked me to post this thread.

He just called CBS Evening News and asked them if they were going to show the militant Islamists' video of the beheading of American Nick Berg.

The woman who answered the phone said that they were going to do a story on it, but they were NOT going to show the full video.

He asked them, "Why not, since you had no problem showing the pictures of the Iraqis being abused by our guys in the prison. Don't you think turnabout is fair play?"

The woman got mad and said, "Thank you for your comment." and then hung up the phone.

Call CBS Evening News and let your voice be heard!

The premise of this action seems to be that airing the infamous photos of the treatment of Iraqi prisoners is equivalent to airing the videotape of the brutal murder of an American; therefore, fairness demands that since the former was aired, so must be the latter.

But it seems to me that this stance undermines the dominant view on this site over the past days that Berg's beheading was a far, far more heinous act--and much more gruesome, which has a bearing on its viability on broadcast airwaves. Hasn't everyone been in agreement that the beheading proved once and for all how much more vile and despicable militant Islam can be than the US Military? If so, then I don't see how you can argue to CBS that the two events merit equal coverage down to the broadcast of every gory detail.

I would personally prefer (as I'm sure would Berg's family) not to look at folks being decapitated on my evening news, American or otherwise. I can't fault CBS for choosing not to show a decapitation on network TV.

Definitely agree! I watched the video and in retrospect, am sorry I did. It is not suitable for the general public. But I wholeheartedly agree with your statement about Dan Blather coming out with some kind of statement like your post.

Well said by the way.

Cheers!

As biased as the media is, they won't show the video anyway. So everyone here at FR trying to twist the arms at CBS are fighting a losing battle.

I sent an email to cbs. My point, and I think the point of much of the discussion, is that in comparison with the beheading of an innocent man, the "abuse" of the Iraqi prisoners stands in relief as not worth the coverage.

In other words, as I said in my [undoubtedly futile] email, cbs has participated in the propagation of a manufactured scandal of little real importance, except that it will result in the death of our service men and women.

I'm so proud.... Here's a copy of my busy daughter's letter to CBS....

"Show it. SHOW IT you cowards! Let Americans SEE with their very own eyes what vermin we are up against. You will show Iraqis with panties on their heads but you won't show them cutting off one of our American's heads. Oh yeah, we're even now, we put panties on their heads, they cut off ours.

Your choice of stories is insane. Americans can't "wake up" to the reality of what we are up against if YOU choose never to show it. I am so freaking tired of hearing about those "poor opressed" Arabs/Muslims. WAKE UP CBS!!!!!!!!!!! I will NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT turn on your channel AGAIN. You should be ashamed of yourselves, hang your heads - especially Dan baby Blather. Sick. You guys are just SICK. Move would you? Let Americans find their backbone again and regain a shred of dignity. I am furious. Show it you yellow bellied "news reporters." SHOW IT. Show it for Daniel Pearl, Show it for Nick Berg, show it for the victims of 911..... SHOW IT."

I said some time back , that Free Republic
was turning into a bunch of Blathering NeoCons..
and if the locked stepped comments of most
on this thread, demanding that this gruesome
video be aired does'nt prove it
I don't know what would !

That's the effect it had on me and that's why I think others should see it. It set, in stone, my determination to wipe out terrorists wherever they may be. No more waffling, folks. This is what we're up against.

I am sorry you feel that it should not be shown. However, I think you are as wrong as can be. Sorry if the real world interrupts your mourning for the last episode of Friends, but these people want to destroy our way of life if not our very beings.

We need to be reminded that there is such evil in the world to steel ourselves to our defense. And I agree with other posters that in this case it is not gratuitous violence. The violence serves a purpose.

On their side, to intimidate and force us to withdraw - until they strengthen their hand sufficiently to slaughter us in our own neighborhoods.

The purpose for us is to serve as a reminder that Freedom is won with blood, and that anything not worth dying for isn't worth living for.
