Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who says the Bush administration needs to come clean about the Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal as quickly as possible, said Monday that he didn't think it was a good idea to investigate Sen. John Kerry's admission that he committed war crimes in Vietnam.
"I just hate to keep going back and revisiting the Vietnam War over and over again," McCain told radio host Sean Hannity, when asked if Kerry and his supporters weren't being hypocritical in calling for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld's dismissal over the Iraq prison flap.
"The very people who are so up in arms who are calling for Don Rumsfeld's head are supporting a guy who admits to burning down villages of innocent civilians," Hannity pressed. "So, I mean, is there an inconsistency there?"
McCain responded meekly, "I'm sure that there is."
After listening to audio from a 1971 interview where Kerry admitted he violated the Geneva Convention in Vietnam, McCain said he didn't think the issue was worth investigating given the strife it would cause.
"There's still so many of our veterans who feel so emotional about this issue that it digs up all of this controversy," he explained.
The Arizona Republican was far less timid about questions on whether Secretary Rumsfeld knew that Iraqi detainees were being abused at the Abu Ghraib prison.
Asked if he didn't agree that Rumsfeld had been a strong defense secretary, McCain equivocated.
"I agree with all of that but there is one strong caveat, OK," he told Hannity.
"And that is let's find out what the chain of command was, who gave the orders, who, if anybody, instructed these guards, what was their relationship with the interrogators, what was the story with the private contractors - all of those things have to be cleared up."

This Freeper is so sick of seeing John McCain on every damn talk show.John McCain (M), is the senator who represents the media, not the state of AZ.
To this day the guy doesn't understand that he lost the nomination due to his self absorbed, narcissistic behavior. I loathe this guy, with Joe Biden a close second.

I didn't know he divorced a severely injured wife, who worked to free the MIA/POWs.
I heard that McCain gained weight as a prisoner of war. Do you have any source for this. If true, I think it is very interesting.

I was stationed for awhile in Oak Harbor, WA back in the late 60s. A lot of POW/MIAs were from there and there was a very strong support group. There were signs all over in businesses and yellow ribbons everywhere. Apparently, McCain's wife was the leader of one of these groups and worked diligently for the POW/MIA release. One night when returning from a speaking engagement Mrs. McCain had a very bad accident and was hospitalized for several months. She never fully recovered and, I think, still walks with a cane. When John did get released he returned home but did not return to the marriage. He divorced his crippled wife and married the daughter of a wealthy Busch brewery executive who funded his run for the U.S. Senate.
John McCain is not President today because he is hated by most veterans. John Kerry will never be President for the same reason.

Well, McRINO, your candidate for President keeps bringing it up, and BRINGING IT ON...so forget about forgetting about it.

I was wondering if someone would bring that up because I was going to post it if not one did. Thanks for the facts!
John McCain isn't any better then Kerry, and the RATs so he should go join their party but then his father-in-law just might cut off his money flow since he is a big Republican!
You are so right about John McCain cannot be trusted!

McCain has empathy for Kerry because of what lies are in his own closet.

"John McCain isn't any better then Kerry..." I respectfully disagree...while I'm no big fan of McCain, at least he hasn't admitted to committing war atrocities in Viet Nam.

Admiting to "war crimes" is one thing, FALSELY admiting to "war crimes" to build up points to get elected prez. is quite something else. Beam me up Monica.

You're absolutely right. John F'n Kerry lied when he admitted to war crimes in 1971. I think that is what McCain is referring to when he says there is an inconsistency.
The problem for the 'Rats is that either their candidate lied under oath about committing war crimes and slandered veterans with no basis, or he actually committed war crimes. Either way, he is unfit to be elected to any position.
I think this whole matter makes Johnnie "Ace" McQueeg nervous because the last thing he wants people to do is start taking a critical look at the Vietnam "Heroes" in the US Senate.

"I think it's an atrocity that sKerry is running for President."
Good point; and a recent atrocity at that. Makes for good reason to investigate the man himself. . .

Another great question I wish Hannity had asked the good Senator.

"McCain said he didn't think the issue was worth investigating given the strife it would cause."
This man is running on his Vietnam record. . .more to the point; he is running on a fabricated version of his record in Vietnam.
WHY, why why, should he not be held accountable for that which he claims; makes him more 'fit' to be. . .President.
Reason fails Liberals; and their 'reason-impairment' should disqualify any Lib from running for any office.
