Gun Control Rally Fails to Draw Large Crowd
All Things Considered audio
May 9, 2004
A crowd in the hundreds gathers for the Million Moms March on the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The turnout was far smaller than the tens of thousands who showed up for the first Million Moms March, four years ago. Organizers downplayed the small size of the crowd -- but they acknowledged these are tough times for gun control. NPR's Libby Lewis reports.

Listen to the audio - it seems to have been a very depressing day for the hoplophobes.

Well, they're not exactly on a roll - their recent losses on the CCW front didn't stack up the bodies after all, and when the "assault weapon" ban goes away there isn't going to be carnage in the street either. What must somebody's life be like when their political aspirations depend on their fellow citizens being slaughtered and they're disappointed when it doesn't happen?

Good!

It's pretty sad, when we can't post from Gannett, but NPR has no problem...

The turnout was far smaller than the tens of thousands who showed up for the first Million Moms March, four years ago. Last poll I saw something like 77 percent agreed with the Second Amendment right to bear arms. So the gun control fanatics got a long way to go to convince people we should give up our ability to defend ourselves like they're doing in Britain and Australia.

...it seems to have been a very depressing day for the hoplophobes. I hope that every democrat running for re-election this fall looks at this event and contemplates if perhaps it is time to drop gun control once and for all times from the democratic party platform.
I doubt that will happen. However, those democrats that continue to demand gun control and a variety of other fringe constituency issues, may soon find themselves totally outside of the elected power structure. (we can hope).

And I suspect that many of that crowd came to Washington mainly to sightsee and shop - just as a lot of those who attended the previous Many* Moms March did.

Many* Moms March did. Or Mini Moms March.

these are tough times for gun control. It should be. More and more people are realizing that once they are unarmed they become no more than targets of opportunity for criminals. Another thing they realize that people that buy and own so called assault weapons are not homicidal maniacs. Criminals don't really need them. If some kook wants to take out life and property he knows he dosen't need a AW to do it.

*(as in the old joke: "I can count in Indian - one, two, three, many.")I recently read a book called "The History of Pi" that had some interesting theories relating to that. It would appear that if you look at the linguistic root of the words for "one" and "two" (in any language), you'll find they are related, (or if not related, they will be similarly ancient), but the root for "three" or more isn't the same. So, it would appear that in most cultures, they pass through a time there 'counting' essentially consists of "One, two, many".
Sorry, but I couldn't help sharing :-)

Definitely a great report! Worth a listen!
It bemoans the split among the gun-grabbers, with VPD not fighting on the AWB, and the report ends with the comment that despite the small turnout, the rally is a kick-off for taking the battle to the states. (Translation: they are losers, and know it.)

Blocking my ability to legally purchase a fire arm from a licensed dealer will not stop the criminal from buying his out of the trunk of someone's car.

The poor little dearies. At least we do not have to worry about them skewing the statistics they generally make up by shooting themselves.
We need an assault rope ban, now!
