U.S. calls for Arab retractions

The day after a WorldNetDaily report revealed that photos circulating in the Middle East that depict GI's raping Iraqi women were fake and had originated from pornography sites, the U.S. Embassy in Cairo issued a statement calling on Arab news outlets to publish retractions.
The embassy statement read, "We have done a thorough investigation of the origin of these photos and have conclusive evidence that they originated on a pornographic web site. They are clearly staged photos, done by actors, as the site itself states."
The Al Wafd newspaper published four photographs on the top of its front page that were alleged show American soldiers sexually abusing female prisoners in Iraq. Al Osboa and Al Mussawer published two of the same photos
The U.S. Embassy called the publication of these pornographic photos, with headlines alleging the involvement of U.S. soldiers, a "fundamental violation of journalistic integrity," and stated that their publication needlessly inflamed an already heated atmosphere.
"All Americans were appalled and shocked by the incidents of abuse that took place at Abu Ghraib prison," the statement read, "President Bush said he was disgusted by what took place there, and National Security Advisor Rice offered America's apologies to the Iraqi people. Just as the United States government itself undertook a thorough investigation of these incidents, so will our government bring those found guilty to justice. There is no excuse for the kind of abuse perpetrated by a small minority of people at Abu Ghraib. However, neither do such abuses justify exacerbating the situation by publishing fake photos and claims designed to raise the emotional temperature even further."

That is one of the most ignornant stunts I've seen.... of course folks like those who run the pornographers websites obviously have no guilty conscience..hence no higher power to be accountable to.
They should be held accountable to our laws for it though.

No, many democrats stand with the people who hate this country. They wouldn't complain about a fake picture if it might hurt Bush - and/or the country.
Democrats ...has there been any outraged from them about this fake pictures?

Faked photos circulating in Arab press
Spread the word ping.

This was posted on Northeast Intelligence Network. Which I had already been suspecting anyway...the pics don't look right. There is more here than meets the eye!!!
As veteran investigators and analysts who are involved daily in sifting though information, disinformation, lies and damn lies, we can authoritatively state that some of the most disturbing images being shown as incontrovertible proof of prisoner abuse have been altered, others conveniently cropped, and a few copied from an Arabic porn site. Photos of dead prisoners that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic at hand have been infused into the mix of images with the intent to inflame and incite the masses against the alleged rampant atrocities being committed by US and British soldiers. Few question the authenticity of these images because after all, pictures dont lie, even in this age when some still believe the pictures taken on the moon were an elaborate hoax actually taken in some desert studio.

IS there any "journalistic integrity" at ALL over there?
Why should there be? There isn't any here either. (altho Fox is not so out there, only news station I can stomach)

Looks like they saw an opportunity to exploit what was already going on. Does this mean that now the Pentagon will have to determine what photos that are circulating are authentic and which ones are staged?

>> The Arabs would rather believe the lie. <<
Exactly!
The lie --> Americans are the source of all your problems.
The truth --> YOU are responsible for all your problems.
The arabs can't handle the truth. Their pride won't let them accept the fact that they created their own mess.

It very well could be, or at least something similar. Notice how the latest jobs reports, including the WSJ story yesterday that demonstrated the "jobless" recovery isn`t jobless at all (not to mention the rise in service and manufacturing incomes) is completely buried. I think this is clearly the Dem strategy...aided and abetted by the alphabet media and their ilk. What`s totally infuriating is they don`t care in the least about the implications for America if the public turns on the Iraq effort and by extension the President. Nope, just get power, that`s all that matters. Eroding away at the administration this way (if it works, and as of yet there`s no proof it will) also serves the larger purpose of possibly hurting the admin`s popularity without Kerry having to do anything other than exist.
I smell Klinton all over this, not to mention a similar strategy that Kerry and his scum used in the 1970`s to create the impression that troops in SE Aisa were "baby killers." These people are very dangerous and should not be underestimated IMO.

Thanks for the ping. : )
Not really smart of them, is it?
1. People will now doubt every photo even more...
2. Comparing the real ones with the fakes, the real ones wont look so bad.

NIN appears to have copied WND's scoop, since they posted after WND's stories broke. The photos were not from Arabic porn sites but an American and Hungarian site.

Are we SURE Larry Flint isn't in the Middle East? Well SOMEBODY was offering money for pictures. The backwoods bitch from Byrdland was acting out an s&m act for the camera--not for interogators. Follow the money trail, once again.

Some idiot on NPR yesterday morning charged that US forces committed atrocities and abuse all the time, going way back when, wherever we sent in forces. I'm getting hives just thinking about all this vicious propaganda. And now it's cost an innocent young man his life. CBS, Hackworth, 60 Minutes, and the rest of that crowd must be proud of themselves. They're under the delusion that they can turn this into Vietnam. It's not going to happen, folks. We're not leaving. If we have to kill a lot of people, well, too bad.
