Byrd: Share outrage. Believes congress has responsibility to demand public accounting. Fears it's beginning of long and painful process. Massive policy failure. Troubling to him why President and advisor are only now condemning abuses when DoD has know about them for months. Hasn't heard a peep from Rumsfeld or Myers. Why did it take CBS broadcase that Myers tried to suppress? "Sadistic, blatant abuses" Why was report unread until the media revealed it? Why wasn't Congress informed? Truman "the buck stops here." I see a different pattern in this admin. arrogance and disdain for Congress. "Fingerprinting" [sic] and excuses.

Byrd has gone over-the-top with grandstanding.
Rummy should ask if there is a question he really wants answered.

Regardless of the deterring effect, Americans should not act like this because it is wrong. It is repulsive. We can adhere to a higher standard of behavior, because we have shown that we have the strength to and because by having a higher standard we have developed the strength to.B.S. The military DOES NOT teach this is acceptable behavior of prisoners. We teach that it is counterproductive. This aspect has nothing to do with what is right or wrong - it is not in the best interests of our military battle planning to engage in this - period. It will be punished because of this - no matter for whatever other reasons.

Isn't Byrd going to say, "You sir, are no Harry Truman"?
it's painful to listen to him, my prior post notwithstanding.
I guess we have to take the bad with the good in a democracy... ;)

I'm waiting for Senator Mark Dayton to come up. He's like the Jeff Bridges character at the very end of "Thunderbolt and Lightfoot".

I once read that McCain got special treatment from his captors while he was a POW....treats such as snacks, fresh fruit, and cigarettes (oh, the horror there).

Sorry Charlie. The abuses were acknowledged much prior to now.
Rummy is correcting him.
