John Kerry burned the midnight oil on the phone with Democrat members of the Senate Armed Services Committee last night. He pleaded with them to go lightly on Donald Rumsfeld when the Secretary of Defense appears before them today at around noon. Rumsfeld is scheduled to answer their questions about allegations of abuse by US soldiers against Iraqi prisoners and the ensuing investigation.
The photos of those alleged cases of abuse have enraged the Arab world. And Democrat bigs on the Armed Services Committee have called for Rumsfleds head.
But according to our source inside the Kerry campaign, John Kerry badly wants the issue to go away. Kerry fears the longer the issue stays in the news, the greater the likelihood his controversial accusations of war crimes committed by US soldiers in Vietnam including his own will become an ancillary issue in the campaign for President. The 9-11 Commission is already going to discredit Bush in their report. If we push things too far, there is bound to be a backlash, our source told us. Tonights cable news talk shows were proof. Virtually every one of them ran footage of John Kerry in 1971 trashing his fellow veterans and admitting atrocities.
Our source told us that the Democrat Senate Caucus had originally planned to rake Rumsfeld over the coals at todays hearing, but that Kerry wanted them to tone it down. Kerry had heated phone conversations with at least two key Democrats on the Armed Services Committee, demanding to know of one, Why are you trying to fk me on this?
No word yet on whether Kerry was successful in persuading his fellow Democrats to go easy on Rumsfeld or not. I guess well just have to stay tuned to the hearings.

I think John Q. Public is actually a bit resentful of all the media coverage of this prisoner abuse story. John Q Public has already been indoctrinated - my husband's son-in-law made the following statement last night, "Seems like just about everything has gone wrong since Bush became president".
I pointed out that 9/11 would have happened if Daffy Duck had been president, that it had been planned long before Bush was elected.

Anyone who has seen the Kerry piece from the Dick Cavett show in 1971 would be repulsed. Kerry was the same then as he is now - a pompus, smarmy, nauseating personality who obviously believes he is a superior being. Back then he had the same habit of talking down to an interviewer, with that same phony Boston Brahmin accent and manner - even though he really isn't a Boston Brahmin. Just another fabrication in the Kerry portfolio that includes his "valorous" service in SEA. He is a bugout artist on the level of Bill Clinton, minus the Bill Clinton Good Old Southern Boy cunning and charm. He is a lying dolt, in other words.

Would that be butchering innocent women and children as opposed to "humiliating" the terrorists? I'm not condoning mistreatment of prisoners, but its hard for me to have much sympathy for people who are in league with those who slaughtered 3,000 of our people on Sept. 11th. Those men, women, and children were doing nothing more than peacefully living their lives, and the barbarians killed them for no sane reason. Excuse me if I weep for our own before I shed too many salt tears for those who support the murderers.

Is this for real? Apparently so.
These questions have really dogged Kerry and the rumor is that he is coming apart at the seams.
The questions posed about the perceived democrat insurgency in congress are beginning to grow legs and Kerry believes it is reflecting on the campaign. he still refuses to blame himself and is blaming congressional behavior.
I note that Kennedy has been fairly silent. This speaks volumes.

If Senator Clinton takes the lead in castigating the SECDEF, then I would advise Senator Kerry to not fly on light aircraft, or to accept any invitations to Fort Marcy Park...Nah Hillary won't do anything to him, just his "prostate cancer" will flair up again.

Ann Compton on ABC radio news just said something SO politically incorrect! She said some lawmakers on Capitol Hill were calling for Rumsfield's "scalp".
