The crisis in the American Catholic Church is a direct result of bishops neglecting (and in Mahoney's case, perhaps rejecting) their duty for 30 plus years.

Now we have a "Catholic" politician wooing "Catholic" voters in terms that directly defy Church doctrine. Not so unusual until you consider that he is also assuring them that they can remain faithfully Catholic by following HIS interpretation of the faith rather than that of the pope and bishops. That's a declaration of schism. And only fools pretend otherwise.
