I keep saying... the best thing Bush could have said was ... "it's unfortunate that we're seeing the results of the Clinton administration's decision to implement 'don't ask, don't tell'".

I saw bits of it on FOX. I think he did really well. He let them know we thought it was wrong and we're going to do something about it.
I just saw a bit of the Al Arabiya interview too, it was just as good.

No, survival is based on cold reasoningNo it isn't. That's why you have emotions like fear and anger. Fight or flight. They are there for a reason. And if anything, apologizing fits into the feel good category.
I've seen more attacks on the people who are fighting this war.
And that's why I stand behind our troops. I support this war and Pres. Bush. I think this is a bad decision.

OK. Then tell me why I should feel apologetic towards these prisoners? Enlighten me with your pearls of wisdom and reason.Don't be such an ass!
Because what those soldiers did to those POW's was wrong. Flat out wrong. There can be no excuses...no justification for what they did. The soldiers behaved abominably.
The President has gone on Arab TV and said those soldiers will be punished and the actions of a few don't represent the American people.
Good for the President.

Our President's address to the Arab world was just on Fox. They are talking about it now.
He brought up 911 and justified our war against the ones who attacked us and vowed to persist in finding them.
I was impressed with what he did. It takes a decent person to apologize for what is wrong and to stand behind what is right.

Relax. He didn't offer an apology.
He said that justice will be done.......the bad guys will be punished. Hardly something that the Islamofascists should take comfort it.

I haven't read this thread since about post 100. I have watched BOTH interviews, which were shown on Fox. The president did not apologize, but expressed his abhorrence at this activity and pledged that unlike the Iraqi torturers, these people would be brought to justice, and the whole world would know the truth.
Did anyone else watch the interviews?
To: Constitution Day
I heard about it this morning. Al-Arabiya and one other one. The other one is Al-Hurra, the new Arab-American network out of DC.

I cannot believe how quickly some around here condemn the PresidentWhy do you equate disagreement with this decision to condemnation? It is possible to support the President and disagree with his decision.

Probably al Iraqi? (or something like that.........the new free Iraq network that Bremer speaks on frequently...) No, Al-Hurra, the new Arab-American network from DC.

Excuse me, I have a different viewpoint than you, so that means I'm not "DISCUSSING" it? I've seen you around and have had discussions with you in the past so I know you know better and you should know better about me. This shows how emotional this has gotten. I feel and think the way I feel and think. I don't support this action. Apparently, that makes me amoral AND a DUer (that's redundant, of course ). It seems I'm not the only one who needs to lighten up around here.

Good, they deserve one. Agreed. Abusing prisoners, with the possible exception of Osama Bin Laden, should not be allowed or tolerated by the USA.

I didn't see the interviews because I'm at work.
He should have said "naked? They weren't naked? They were wearing hoods."

thanks for the update!

These animals don't offer any apologies. True. But we're the ones trying to change their behavior and belief system. We should do what's right, even though they do not.

I haven't seen it but, from your post, it sounds like he did exactly the right thing. We have nothing to apologize for. We fight evil people, regardless of who they are. That's the message.

But we're the ones trying to change their behavior and belief system. That's the very bottom line. Problem is that a number of us don't think this is doable. That it's a flawed plan.

Well thank you for your service. But I still think you're the one who sounds emotional and wing-nuttish.
