Then be happy...the President did NOT apologize. I cannot believe how quickly some around here condemn the President. I find is sickening.

Hmmm... Sounds like lawyer-speak to me. And unnecessary

How hard is it to know that you're not supposed to jam a broomstick or a chemlight up someone's fundament.

It might be less about the guards being homos as it is about the guards being just out-and-out sadistic a**holes. (Remember, there was at least one woman involved--I don't think she's a rump-ranger.)

Looks like an emotional kindergarten you say? Wingnuts you say?

These are your posts. Looks very emotional, anti troop wing-nuttish to me.

We'll just have to disagree on that one.

The primary objective is to win the trust and good faith of the nation of Islam, not to defeat it in battle.

Once again, we see the same facts and draw entirely different conclusions.

As I see it (from what the President has already stated clearly) the premise (primary objective), is that a free, self-governing Iraq will bring stability to the region and to the world, and make us safer from the terrorists who no longer can train and breed there.

Let's say THAT is what the President has in mind......that he is an honest man who has clearly stated, morally sound goals......... at least for the sake of the discussion.

Both the (temporary?) stand down in Fallujah to allow the Iraqis say in the process, and the pronouncement the President made to the Arab world, that we are a nation of justice and not brutality, are steps in the ladder with the same goal in mind. Neither are to appease. Both are to reach the ultimate goal.

I repeat. IMO, this is NOT a sign of weakness, nor to win 'the trust' of the Arab world, but is a sign of strength and resolve to continue the War on Terror, and rise above the enemy.

IMHO he is doing an even better job here.

Forceful case for America, and incredible honesty about how people in the region will react to the picture.

I am just really impressed by this President. I don't think I have ever seen such an honest politician.

Exactly poohbah! I joined FreeRepublic cause it is composed of mature, rational, unemotional adults. And now all this ninnys are coming out the woodwork, slagging our President.

It is just nuts. Let's try to keep our emotions in check, and not act like total Hillaries.

OK. Then tell me why I should feel apologetic towards these prisoners? Enlighten me with your pearls of wisdom and reason.

"I suspect both of you lack the required information in order to citize the President"

Suspect all you like, we are American and it is our birthright to speak our minds. And it is our troops and the Brits that are fighting the WOT while most of Europe has already surrendered. Enjoy Islam, you (Europe, not Eurowit) earned it.

I would much perfer a Persident that knows exactly what he is doing then one that is unsure and reacts to events instead of creating events.

You know absolutely NOTHING about this President if you actually believe that.

Try doing some reading. Even Bob Woodward knows better than that.....

EXCELLENT post!

I respect President Bush for taking on the responsibility of admitting what some of our Troops did was not right.

Apologizing, isn't a four-letter word. We have a problem, folks. It ain't going away. The Liberals and the MSM are using this as a weapon to defeat President Bush. What a better example to set than to admit when a mistake was made.

I hope the President also takes the opportunity to tell the Arabs that we will not change the course on our fight against terrorism, that we are at WAR and we will not waiver, we will not tire and we will not fail, and that WE ARE PROUD OF THE UNITED STATES MEN AND WOMEN WHO SERVE IN THE MILITARY TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM AND WHO ARE DOING THEIR BEST TO BRING FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY TO IRAQ.

I hope it's just a trial balloon.

If he can "apologize" and call to mind the genuine atrocities committed by the Muslims, that might be one thing. But Muslims get off scot free for whatever horrors they perpetrate, so I guess I shouldn't hold my breath.

Naw, I think you feelings are fine. Personally, I don't feel too upset over their treatment, as the ones in the prison are probably there because they were manning the people-shredders or performing some other nastiness. I'm more p*ssed-off that the images have been put out so publicly. Let the UCMJ handle our aberrant personnel internally as its normally done. The UCMJ exists outside of civil law with an express purpose of allow in the military to police itself and not have to explain itself all the time.

The media pre-Vietnam would never have ran with this story. They knew better, and d*mn the Ted Koppels and Terry Morans of the world for their unremitting bullsh*t!

If it's easier to just insult me, fine. He's already said what needs to be said. You think I don't think it's wrong to abuse these prisoners? Is that what you're saying? What a nitwit you are. Don't even bother to respond. Go off and feel good about yourself, because that's what all this is about.

And it is our OBLIGATION to know the truth.

Nope. As a former Marine, I just expect a lot more out of those who voluntarily wear this nation's uniform than these people delivered.
