U.S. Walks Out as Sudan Elected to U.N. Rights Body

UNITED NATIONS (Reuters) - Sudan won an uncontested election on Tuesday to the United Nations' main human rights watchdog, prompting the United States to walk out because of alleged ethnic cleansing in the country's Darfur region.

Sudan's delegate immediately shot back that the U.S. delegation was "shedding crocodile tears" and turning a blind eye to atrocities committed by U.S. soldiers in Iraq against civilians as well as against prisoners.

Fourteen vacant seats were filled on Tuesday for the 53-nation U.N. Human Rights Commission based in Geneva. Many were decided by regional groups before Tuesday's voting in the Economic and Social Council in New York.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's par for the course.

Same as the lies of Wilson and Clarke being passed off as truth, yet the Bush administration is treated as if every word they utter must be triple vetted before we should believe them.

6 months? Hell, I would not give them 6 days to get out. 24 hours is more like it.

"two million dead Christians"

But according to the pimple-assed boofers at Reuters, these two-million deaths (not even called deaths, but "ethnic cleansing") are merely "alleged".

SUDAN of all countries, on the Human Rights Commission? The same Sudan that still has slavery, genocide, etc? The UN can't be taken seriously anymore.

The time is ripe!

Get the UN out of the US and into a "deserving" needy African nation where the delegates, administrators and other assorted flunkies can spend their largesse (largely furnished by the USA) in an economy that needs a terrific boost.

Zimbabwe comes to mind. There, no one would worry about the double-parking and traffic offenses. In Zimbabwe (or Zimbabyou, Zimbabme) they could run down countless numbers of the populace and no one would care.

Goodbye UN. Hello US sovereinty. Has a nice ring, don't you think?

We have a veto, so may as well stay in the UN. But I think the UN head quarters should move someplace else, it stinks up where ever it is, get it out of the USA.

Agree on both counts: UN out of the US, but US to stay in the UN, if only to prevent mischief with our veto.

For this reason we have deemed it necessary to requisition the office space you and your colleagues currently occupy. Please vacate 25 East 39th Street New York City, New York by noon tomorrow.

Thank you for your cooperation.

If they would just walk out of the UN alltogether, and not stop in the hallway...

how the Sudanese delegate can compare a few stripped Iraqi prisoners to wholesale genocide is stunning.

It is apparently stunning to most Americans. America has no more moral authority, it's gone forever. Blame it on Clinton if you like.

I think the actual totals for Sudan are about 2 million killed and several million more displaced.

Unbelievable. The Sudan on the human rights commission. And John effin' Kerry wants the UN to take over in Iraq. How special. And as the US committing atrocities on detainees in Iraq? Please. They have been embarrassed, not physically tortured, like being electrocuted, thrown in acid vats, having their hands cut off, thrown off of buildins, tossed into industrial shredders, etc. And I heard this morning that the prisoners complained of being "treated like women". Oh, the horror. And doesn't that give us an idea of how the Islamofascists view women? Nice.
