Hugh Hewitt ^ | 5/3/04 | Hanoi John French Kerry

Posted on 05/03/2004 3:21:11 PM PDT by Steven W.

Following in the Howard Dean tradition, Hanoi John French Kerry took the stage before the Anti-Defamation League and preached the teachings of Jesus, "love thy neighbor" as Old Testament theocracy found in the 10 Commandments.

Hugh Hewitt notes that the first sign it was going to be another bad day or another bad week for Kerry was that today is Monday! ROFLMAO

Ummm.... in the case of "Love Thy Neighbor," Kerry is right.

See Numbers 18, IIRC.

(What was "new" in Jesus' teaching was that we were to love "as I have loved you," not in the legalistic sense of the OT.)

He didn't cite the Book of Numbers, he attributed it to the 10 Commandments.

Geez, when Homer Simpson talked about the stories of Hercules in The Bible, we were supposed to know it was funny. And now this from the F'n man. Maybe this race will be more fun than we thought.

Sorry, Hugh -- the line is found in the Old Testament:

For example:

"You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the LORD." (Lev. 19:18).

My bad - didn't see the 10 commandments part. However, "love thy neighbor" is part of the OT theology.

"Kerry will say Christ is God what's the issue?"

He will? Not so sure about that.

And if Kerry does believe Jesus to be God, then it would behoove him to spend a bit more time in God's word. At least enough time so that he doesn't come off looking like a buffoon to anyone who has spent even a little time reading the bible.

Ummm... the 10 Commandments prohibited "loving your neighbor"... well, at least your neighbor's wife.

He didn't cite the Book of Numbers, he attributed it to the 10 Commandments.

Don't forget -- democRATs are allowed plus or minus two books in their Bible citations.

You are right - in fact the Jewish Rabbi Hillel, whose school was a teacher of Gamilel, who was a teacher of Saul (Paul) had a famous teaching of a young man who said he would go to Temple if Hillel could recite the Torah while standing on one leg.

Hillel responded "Love the Lord with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself. All of the rest flows out of this."

At least Clinton knew the Ten Commandments. He didn't follow them, but he knew what they were.

I'd like to see the exact quote. If the Hugh Hewitt weblog is correct, he called only one of "the commandments", which does not necessarily limit oneself to the original 10.

AP-by Ben Hinn; John F---ing Kerry who stepped foot in a church for the first time since he was a child during this campaign season in a desperate attempt to keep Jewish voters in the leftist camp made a speech today praising the greatest Jew of them all, Jesus Christ.

Kerry quoting the Ten Commandments handed down from Christ to Moses said that everyone should learn from Jesus that old Jewish proverb that the "word became flesh, and dwelt among us", that we should "love our neighbor as ourselves" but only if we can involve the UN.

The stunned Jewish leaders sat in silence as Kerry stated that Jesus was indeed the Messiah but that he was also a great social worker and humanitarian and everyone knows was certainly a post-modern liberal. Even though he noted that no liberal he knows would have ever taken a tax-collector like Matthew from his important duties of confiscation simply to spread the word of God.

Kerry got on his bicycle and rode away following his remarks.

Kerry voted for the Ten Commandments, before voting against them.

It's okay, since his favorite Bible verse is John 16:3.

Here is the quote:

"For all of its history, ADL has been self-asked to live up to one of the oldest most fundamental principles of civilization. It is actually one of the Commandments as we know: 'Love your neighbor.' And all of you are yourselves showing courage, because it can be bitter, it is tough. Bigotry, hatred, fear, drive people to do things that are inexplicable, and it is hard in any community to stand up against that, but it is vital."

The crux is that "love you neighbor as yourself" comes from the book of law - Leviticus 19:18. It is NOT one of the 10 commandments. However, if you read the entire passage, it CAN be interpreted as a commandment from God.

Leviticus 19:18
Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.

To take the position that this is actually comes from the New Testament would be looking at the teachings of Jesus in

Matthew 5:43
You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.'

This is where Jesus references Lev 19:18 but expands it to also say love your enemy.

Personally, I think Hugh has jumped a little too soon in calling this a misquote.
