FREE REPUBLIC ACTIVISM SEMINAR TO BE HELD IN NEW YORK CITY JUNE 5, 2004
May 1, 2004 | firebrand

Posted on 05/01/2004 5:44:12 PM PDT by firebrand

OK! It has finally come together.

The Tri-State Chapter of Free Republic will be hosting a Leadership Institute Activism Seminar from 9 a.m. to 3 or 4 p.m., Saturday, June 5, 2004, at

The Women's National Republican Club 3 West 51st Street (between Fifth and Sixth Avenues, at Rockefeller Center) New York, NY

We will be in the lovely Lincoln Room, which you can view at the WNRC site. The club has rooms available for overnight stays, if anyone should decide to make a weekend of it.

Los Angeles and Friva Las Vegas have already had these seminars, and the reports are excellent. It has been said that even unrehabilitated slot-machine players have enjoyed every minute of these presentations in spite of having looked forward to the casinos for weeks.

Here is a partial list of the topics that will be covered:

The Real Nature of Politics and Elections
Developing a Strategic Message
Motivating and Recruiting Volunteers
Building Coalitions
Targeted Voter Contact

The presentations will be activist-oriented and will fit in perfectly with our goals as activists. Even if we think we have become experts in some areas, there are always new aspects to think about and the focus of a professional to sharpen our wits.

The event will be presented by Dana Stevens, Grassroots Programs Coordinator for the Leadership Institute. Dana is from Savannah and is a graduate of Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia. He has been involved in politics from an early age, and most recently, before joining the LI, was on the staff of Congressman Jack Kingston (now serving his sixth term as a Republican representative from Georgia's 1st District).

This is a crucial time for political endeavors, to say the least. We need every conservative to be on "active duty" and we need to be as well equipped as possible for the coming challenges.

Someone has reported that she was not allowed to use her credit card on the PayPal link. Has anyone else had trouble? PayPal does apparently take precautions based on payment patterns, similar to what a credit-card company itself does.

It might be better at this point to send checks. Freepmail me for information on how to do this.

I can attest that this training is top notch.

I was at the training in FRiva Las Vegas and took away much knowledge that will be needed when I decide to throw my hat into whatever ring is open when I decide to do it.

It's also great for helping out your favorite candidate in whatever local/regional/national political races are open.

I have not heard one even mediocre report on these seminars: everyone says they are wonderful.

And every event of this type I have been to has been worth its weight in gold--no matter how much you think you know on a subject, a strong, focused presentation adds to your arsenal, and makes you a better activist.

Thanks for bumping the thread, kp. Maybe we can keep this thread moving? Can we put it back in the Activism sidebar maybe?

As one who has gone to both seminars held on the left coast, it's great!

Paul, if there is any way you can go and take your lovely wife, DO IT!

Firebrand, let me know if there's anything I can do to help you get the word out.

The section I liked best was "Developing a Strategic Message". It makes you think about who you are targeting and how best to package your efforts to influence them. Sometimes in FR we create messages that we think are impactful or funny, but don't consider how those who see the message might perceive it.

It's all about being effective!

June 5 is a good day. It's the day I got married.

It's my Mom and Dad's anniversary, too.
