Book Names Iraqi in Alleged '99 Bid to Buy Uranium

By Susan Schmidt Washington Post Staff Writer Friday, April 30, 2004; Page A16

It was Saddam Hussein's information minister, Mohammed Saeed Sahhaf, often referred to in the Western press as "Baghdad Bob," who approached an official of the African nation of Niger in 1999 to discuss trade -- an overture the official saw as a possible effort to buy uranium.

That's according to a new book Joseph C. Wilson IV, a former ambassador who was sent to Niger by the CIA in 2002 to investigate reports that Iraq had been trying to buy enriched "yellowcake" uranium. Wilson wrote that he did not learn the identity of the Iraqi official until this January, when he talked again with his Niger source.

it turns out that st. joe wilson, adored by the media almost as much as st. dick clarke, is (or was) lying through his teeth.

I'll bet his wife is really a waitress or something.

HA!

This is typical liberal doublespeak. I'm sure Uncle Joe Wilson will come up with some Clintonian (perhaps Kerryistic) explanation like "well people were asking if Saddam was looking for Yelllowcake in Nigeria so when I said no I was being honest, after all it Baghdad Bob looking for yellowcake and nobody asked me if he was looking. See Bush lied and mislead the country" and all the liberal media fools will drink their Kool-Aid and do their duty.

I keep looking out my window to see if the sun is moving in retrograde. The fact that FReepers are taking a position that requires taking Baghdad Bob seriously has me worried about the end of the world.

You need to read closer, it is Joe Wilson making these claims not Baghdad Bob. In fact it is Joe Wilson quoting a official from Niger in regards to Baghdad Bob. If one does not find either Wilson for the Niger govt. official credible then the original story had no credibility either since it relied on the same sources. But even then one has to account for two totally different versions by one person (J. Wilson). I'm not having it both ways, but the left is trying.

By much the same way, you mean surprised that someone is taking Bob seriously? If they are, it must be simply the blind squirrel / nut syndrome.

Can you imagine Baghdad Bob on a trade mission? "Oh, you MUST try our wine! The fruit of our vineyards is so lush and plentiful that steel columns are required to keep the grapes from dragging the ground!"

"As you know, Iraq is the world's foremost information technology producer, and Saddamware is poised to knock Microsoft off of its perch as the world's leading software manufacturer. Saddamware is so advanced that even an illiterate Arab whose education consists solely of memorizing the Quran can solve complex quadratic equations simply by following the steps in our simple "help" window."

That's meaningful, coming from one whose latest, greatest hits include the following posts:

"My arent we a shithead today!!!!!!!!"

"No it wasnt a typo and yes I am a klan member."

"And just for kicks bite my ass."

"Your a complete idiot."

"Screw that POS."

"Sounds like your too dumb and smartass to pick a fight!!!!!"

"And just who the hell are you? I could give a rats ass how many french pigs like the USA"

In the face of withering intellect like that, I guess I should pay close attention to your "shivers."

He's still lying...

Terry Jeffrey, the editor of Human Events, reports a great story, "Saddam Sent Trade Mission to Niger." Jeffrey went through the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency records and found that they say Saddam Hussein sent an ambassador named Al Zahawie on a trade mission to Niger in 1999

Iraqi Agent Went To Niger In 1999

The agent was NOT Baghdad Bob.
