Iraqi Agent Went To Niger In 1999

July 31, 2003

Terry Jeffrey, the editor of Human Events, reports a great story, "Saddam Sent Trade Mission to Niger." Jeffrey went through the United Nations Atomic Energy Agency records and found that they say Saddam Hussein sent an ambassador named Al Zahawie on a trade mission to Niger in 1999. As Jeffrey asks, "If Iraq’s emissary to Niger sought trade, the implication is obvious: Did Saddam want Niger uranium, or did he want Niger cows or cowpeas?"

The Iraqi nuclear hawk did, indeed, go to Niger in 1999. It's backup that the British intelligence is right. What's that Iraqi nuclear hawk doing in Niger? Niger is a uranium-exporting country. It's the primary thing that Niger is known for.

So now, it has been discovered and even admitted to by Al Zahawie that he went there in 1999, ostensibly on a trade mission, but this was a move to arm Arab nations with nuclear capability because of the imbalance of power, from their point of view, based on the possession of such weapons by Israel. So this just gets even more frustrating.

There's no question that those 16 words in the president's State of the Union were correct and there was no reason to apologize for saying them. Saddam was trying to reconstitute his nuclear program - and he was snooping around Africa trying to do it.

(Dubya)'s lies about Niger uranium...

WHOOPS! The RATS are wrong - yet again.

(1999? Say - wasn't that during the impeached *Squirt's administration?)

If this editor could find that information, why didn't someone in the administration find it...and USE it?

President Bush DID NOT mention Niger in the state of the union address. He specifically said "Africa."

I don't even care. Cripes of COURSE Saddam was trying to get uranium. As well as anything else he could get his hands on. In order to believe the "no WMD Bush is a Liar" stuff you have to be a flat earther.

This whole thing, beginning to end, has been pure spin and BS. From the Dems, from the media, from everyone that has questioned the whole issue. Its patently obvious what Saddam was doing.

I find myself wondering if Bush and Rove allowed this to go on so long to allow the Dems and their media me-too-ers to hang themselves with it.

....AND...didn't X-42 say that the intelligence that he acted upon pointed to an Iraq interest in Niger Yellowcake?

Say, GreyHamhocks! Aren't you on the Intelligence and didn't you know what X-42 knew? Or...are you and intelligence and Oxymaroon!

Yes! But good luck getting the mainstream press to mention this fact.

Cripes of COURSE Saddam was trying to get uranium.

Old news.

Were you aware that Hussein already had anywhere between 400 tons and 750 tons of uranium yellowcake?

Were you aware that he'd had it since the early 90's?

Were you aware that everyone knew he had it? This includes the US Govt. The IAEA. The U.N.

Everyone.

Well, everyone except, of course, President Bush who trumpeted this during his SOTU address.

Now, why would Bush make a big deal over this by mentioning that Iraq was trying to buy yellowcake when Iraq already had over a million pounds of the stuff?

That's the question that needs to be asked and answered.

"That's the question that needs to be asked and answered."

Yes, indeed. According to the French, Germans, Iraqis, Democrats, peaceniks, anti-war pukes, and other assorted Saddam sympathizers world-wide. Sheesh, who gives a rat's tail?

We kicked Saddam's butt and rid the world of his tyrannical regime of terror. Join the Democrats if Bush pisses you off so much. Who cares? Get a freeking life already!

I'll go with what the inspectors have said all along.Iraq knew the secrets of how to make nuclear weapons. Also biological and chemical weapons. What they lacked was not scientific knoweledge. They didn't lack the secrets and technology. They had solved all those problems. All they did lack was time and access to nuclear materials. If the Iraqis were able to import, for example, from a Soviet program--that has now fallen apart--nuclear material, plutonium or some high-enriched uranium, it would take them only a very short time to fabricate a crude but effective weapon.

That's why we are convinced that as long as Saddam was in power, you've got a big problem just waiting to happen. Because when you know all the secrets. It's just opportunity and access.

The administration just folded under the Dem attack. It was pathetic to watch. They should have come out swinging and squashed the Democrats. UK still stands by their intelligence and Bush's statement was 100% correct.

Cake:

Just remembering that Al Zwahari (maybe wrong name??) but: There was an interview. He said he talked to Atta just before 9-11 and Atta told him in code (a riddle), the date of the attack.

Since this was well after the attack, I wondered why this bad dude mentioned it. The word "cake" was part of the riddle. I'm trying to remember when this interview occurred.
